BANGKOK: -- THE Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is taking action against two Malaysians and their Thai wives for luring many Thai women into Malaysia's flesh trade.

The Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has successfully rescued six Thai victims and alerted the DSI about this gang.

DSI has arrested Steven Low or Keng Siang Low, a Malaysian, and two Thai nationals, Ratchadaphan Saenkasem and Kallaya Somsri.

"We are going after the other Malaysian suspect," Pol Lt-Colonel Komwit Pattanarat of the DSI said at a press conference yesterday.

According to the DSI, the female suspects ran beauty salons in Bangkok's Bang Bon district and Phayao's Dok Khamtai district, through which they falsely advertised that they could place interested Thai women in well-paying jobs in Kuala Lumpur-based spas and karaoke parlours.

The suspects also used Facebook to lure their victims. After the victims agreed to take up job offers, they were sent to Malaysia and locked up at a place, and only allowed out to provide sexual services to customers.

"Catalogues found at the place show that this gang must have lured more than 100 victims already," Komwit said.

He warned Thai women to be careful about job offers that promise unusually high wages.

"Many Thai women end up being forced into prostitution after they take up such job offers," he said.

The three arrested suspects have been charges with several offences, including human trafficking.

DSI chief Suwana Suwanjuta said human trafficking was a serious crime and Thailand was now seriously combating this.

About bloody time, but I feel, once again the actions are too little, too late and only undertaken due to external influences.---BigBadGeordie

But a tree planted now, will not bear fruit for a long time.

Whether they knew they were being recruited into prostitution is irrelevant, whether they were already working in the sex trade in Thailand prior to relocation is also irrelevant.

The fact is they were then literally taken hostage and detained in a foreign country, this in itself is the crime that warrants the alleged perpetrators to be tried and (if found guilty) locked away for a very lengthy jail term.

Why are there several poster's (on this thread and other similar relating to sex crimes and pedophiles) who see it justifiable to question the intention or motives of the victims? These victims of what can only be described as horrendous crimes are NOT TO BLAME for what has happened to them!!!

No matter what their actions or the decisions they have made, they are the innocent victims in these sad and sorry tales. Far too many contributors here on TV sit at home in their ignorant bliss asking the most stupid of questions, it only show's their complete lack of empathy and understanding of the plight of some of these victims...

Used to be plenty of willing Farangs that took Thai women to Singapore ,posing as their boyfriends so the Thais would get a 30 day Visa on Arrival.

Some of these girls would end up in Geylang and have to pay off the Singaporean agents a lot of money, others would end up working in Orchard Towers having to pay back a Thai agent a lot of money.

The Farang would get his ticket paid and a few thousand baht.

And the there was the Tokyo run.......back in the Days of Thais needing Visas to enter Japan, Desperate skint Farangs taking Desperate skint Thais, they both knew the score, only difference was the Farangs involvement was over as soon as the Thai was in the country, some of the Thai women were never seen again.

...one has to ask how many of the women really did not know what they were getting themselves in to....

I was wondering how long it would take for the first 'but surely they must have known' post came up. True story - many years ago I unwittingly rented the top half of a large house here on Phuket. It transpired that the lower half was packed with girls sleeping on the floor overseen by an obese bare chested Thai man complete with gold amulets and a couple of 'guards', whose duty it was to not allow the girls to escape. These girls were taken to work in the many beerbars here and then picked up and earnings sequestrated. They were also obliged to service the many Thai men who called in in person. One of them told me she knew what she was getting into but the others thought they were being offered work in restaurants and supermarkets. Much alike a Thai friend's brother had been told he was being taken to a construction site ending up on a fishing boat.

So before anyone starts up with the 'Well Thai men use them too' doesn't make it less wrong, I'm sure many farang eat the same fish from the same slave boats as Thais. And yes, I'm aware of the freelancers, just as I'm aware of the fisherman at the end of the pier.

From personal knowledge the same is happening in Hong Kong. You're right, the farang 'boyfriend's' are off back to Thailand with a few thousand baht leaving the Thai girls to an uncertain fate.

DSI busts human trafficking ring linked to flesh trade in Malaysia

BANGKOK, 25 July 2015 (NNT) – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has busted a human trafficking ring for luring women into prostitution in Malaysia.

Authorities have arrested one Malaysian man and two Thai women, identified as Stephen Lowe, Ratchadapan Sankasem and Kalaya Somsi who have deceived a number of girls into becoming sex workers in Kuala Lumpur via Facebook for more than five years.

DSI Director-General Suwana Suwanjata disclosed that the gang tricked their targets by claiming to be able to provide them with jobs in spa or karaoke shops in leading hotels in Malaysia in exchange for a service fee of 30,000 baht per person.

Upon their arrival in Malaysia, the victims were forced to work as sex slaves in a brothel. Those who managed to escape the gang’s captivity sought help from the Thai Embassy which later informed the DSI of the crime.

Authorities have filed several charges against the gang members, including human smuggling, sexual procurement and involvement in trans-national crimes.
