Having just bought a new computer from a shop in pattaya, I now have a problem with the message you have a counterfeit copy of windows, the shop say's don't worry it will update the same but that's not the end of it, is it ? Is window's going to shut it down ?

The official thing to do is tell microsoft who sold you the stuff and suposedly if it is a genuine conterfiet then they will supply you with a genuine copy for free under the antipiracy reporting deal but be prepared for them to renege on this

hope this helps

What the shope told was the polite form of : back off, you got what you deserve.

Following that, play hard you too : report them first to Microsoft, and eventually to the police too (be sure to ask Microsoft to help you in that case).

Sound nasty? Well to be honest they sold him something that is not working (or does they told you BEFORE you paid it was a fake window?).

Another solution is to find a non legitimate CD who have the tool to remove Microsoft genuine tool.

I do bought one in Pantip, it's written in BIG (lower left corner) GENUINE PRODUCT ... what a laught but at least you can remove the Microsoft genuine tool

If you paid for a full WIN XP (somewhere between 5 and 7 K Baht) and you get this message then report it to MS!

Did you get a OEM WIN CD with your PC?

If you paid only a few hundred Baht for the OS then it is obvious what happened.

Windows will not shut down! But DO set it to run automatic updates. High priority updates will still be installed!!!! Manual updates will NOT work!

It has to be a genuine counterfeit?

But what if it's a counterfeit counterfeit?

Hi sleepyjohn

good call :o:D:D

some copies are made to look like they are from Microsh#te and others are blatant even to the uninformed computer person

the big MS is far more interested in the very close look alikes

seen ones here that look perfect apart from the 3d hologram and slight imperfections on the COA

genuine xp pro are available from computer shows from £10 upwards but only if you install in a hp or dell or compaq machine whichever is printed on the cover along with the only available with oem computer auto authenticates as soon as you connect to update

very good especially for laptops
