The Royal Palace has denied a report that King Norodom Sihamoni will meet with leaders of the ruling and opposition parties over the ongoing dispute on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border.

“The Royal Palace would like to announce to the public that King Norodom Sihamoni has not mentioned [this] and there is no plan to summon leaders of the three political parties for discussion about border issues,” a press statement from the Royal Palace today reads.

On Saturday, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, a former prime minister and head of the royalist Funcinpec party, claimed that leaders of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, along with himself, would meet to “share ideas on territorial issues.”

Cambodian King has no plan to convene party leaders to discuss border issues: statement
Xinhua

PHNOM PENH, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has no plan to meet with the leaders of three major political parties over ongoing border issues, according to a press statement released by the Ministry of Royal Palace on Monday. "His Majesty the King has not thought, or said, or planned to convene the leaders of the three main political parties to discuss border issues," the statement said.

It added that "If there is any important discussion relevant to national interest, the king will talk with Prime Minister Hun Sen and the monarch has never had habit to consult with political parties."

The statement came after local media quoted Prince Norodom Ranariddh, president of royalist Funcinpec Party and head of the Supreme Privy Advisory Council to the king as saying on Saturday that the king is planning to summon Prime Minister Hun Sen to a meeting with Sam Rainsy, president of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, over border issues with Vietnam.

The prince also said that he would be invited for such a meeting as president of the Funcinpec Party.

Prince put in place by palace, premier
Tue, 28 July 2015

Prime Minister Hun Sen has slammed comments made by Prince Norodom Ranariddh suggesting that King Norodom Sihamoni would meet with leaders of the ruling and opposition parties over the ongoing dispute on the Cambodian-Vietnamese border.

“Previously, you [Ranariddh] used the King Father’s image for your [popularity], and now you have tried to use the image of your brother [sihamoni].

Please use your own image and stand on your own,” the premier said yesterday during a birthday ceremony for Supreme Buddhist Patriarch Nuon Ngeth.

Over the weekend, Ranariddh, a former prime minister and head of the royalist Funcinpec party, claimed that leaders of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, along with himself, would meet to “share ideas on territorial issues”.
