PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – Demand for driving lessons is growing along with car ownership in Cambodia.

The Kingdom has about 2.4 million cars on the road, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. During 2014, people registered 39,531 cars and trucks, up 6.36 percent from 2013. The number may be higher when taking unregistered vehicles into account.

Over the past three to four years, driving schools saw rising enrollment for motorcycle lessons, owners said. But this year, car lessons are starting to predominate. Under Cambodian law, people with a car license can drive motorcycles.

“My driving school has operated since a long time ago, and many people trust us. Now the number of enrollments is increasing,” said Pisey, a receptionist of DaiThom II driving school, which has multiple locations in Phnom Penh.
