Deputy PM urges Thais to use correct Thai language

BANGKOK, 30 July 2015 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam has suggested that Thai people should be aware of the correct and proper use of the Thai language during the 2015 National Thai Language Day event.

The deputy PM on Wednesday presided over a ceremony to grant awards to people who had used the Thai language exceptionally well at the National Cultural Center in Bangkok. He said many Thai people today unnecessarily used foreign words when speaking and writing Thai and made new words, especially in social media. He then suggested everyone speak and write grammatically correct Thai and help set an example for the proper use of the language.

Apart from the award presentation ceremony, the national Thai language day event this year featured traditional musical and performance competitions in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

'Bike for Mom' rehearsal brought forward

Royal Guard officers provide bicycle examination and repair services for cyclists.

BANGKOK: -- A REHEARSAL for the August 16 "Bike for Mom" campaign will be held on Sunday morning from 7.30am to noon instead of 3pm to 9pm as previously scheduled, police spokesman Pol Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri said yesterday.

The event was postponed in order to avoid heavy traffic as holidaymakers will be returning to the capital on that day, he said. The rehearsal, which will be attended by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, will have the same security as on the actual day along the biking route - from Dusit Palace Plaza to Sutthisan Intersection.

Meanwhile, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration chief Sanya Chenimit inspected the "Bike for Mom" first registration session for souvenir pins at the Dusit District Office to ensure orderliness. The registration runs until August 5 and participants can collect their souvenir on August 14-15.

On August 16, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will lead a convoy of cyclists on a 43-kilometre ride in Bangkok in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 83rd birthday, while similar convoys will be held simultaneously in provinces nationwide.
