Yes.

Ryan,

If the ISP refuses to service your residence, or says "Maybe in a few years", ASK to talk to an area manager. If the manager says the same, ask them how many people in your village need to sign up to service the village.

Or, ask them what other options are available to get service to you, or others in your village (ie: TOT WiNet).

There should have been a reason why those other villages were able to get service, and why yours did not. Could be those other villages are closer to an exchange (facility where all the wires come together).

I think the reason is no one in this village would want the internet bar us... we have recently built a house here you see but most of the locals are quite old farmers and those that do use the internet (very few) are using 3g mobiles....

No one else in the village would be willing to sign up I doubt except possibly one younger couple but even then they are students and it might be a bit costly... saying that I would offer to pay half the bill if it meant getting a decent connection.

In regards to the exchange... one village to the right of us is close to the main highway, and the village to the left of us is further away from the highway than us... infact they are more rural than us if that makes sense... I suspect this village was probably offered it but no one wanted it,

I will ask to speak with a manager tomorrow, I will ask politely as I always find if you smile and act pleasantly here you get a whole lot further than if you don't show manners with anything in Thailand, it goes along way... anyway I will let you all know what they say, might be good information for others in a similar situation. If I cannot get a proper ISP here then I will just live with 4G for now but it would be nice to have a proper connection, I forgot how lucky I was in my last place having a 10mb 3bb connection!

Cheers

I have had the same issue with internet living out in the sticks with the internet, the majority of the village are farmers and mostly don't have internet accessible phones never mind a laptop. I have spoken with TOT and they have came to my house on 3 separate occasions and did a survey/signal check (not sure exactly what they did as never see them) then they would call the Mrs up a few weeks later and say that the signal is not good. I was looking to get a signal booster installed as the closest mast is approximately 2 km away which I thought would be an option but apparently not.

I tried CAT and got no information from them.

I will go see TOT again when I am home in a few weeks and ask about running in cable to get a phone line to the house as its been nearly 4 long years waiting to get a decent stable connection and would be will to pay for the cable and run it myself if need be smile.png

Will be interesting to see how you get on.

Dezy quick one as im on the mobile but when you say out in the stick's how far are you? Do you have any near by towns or villages that are online? I'm about 20km from roi et and about 2km from the main highway.... 4 years is along time and hopefully in that time more exchanges or masks have been put up... I take it you've been using a 3g modem? If so which network and how much data are you using? Cheers mate

I am only 2km from the nearest mast and 1 km from the village, the closest place I last checked that had phone lines was the village about 20km from where I am that was about 1 a year ago when I last checked where the phone line last stopped.

Yes you are right 4 years is far to long. Yes I use 3G which is AIS and the Mrs is the same sometimes use the dongle on the laptop but gave up on downloading anything as speed was terrible and have not tried this year as I just go to my uncles home in Phatum Thani and download what I need there when visiting.

Hope you get some positive results from TOT mate.

Thanks for the replies all... I have been speaking to a few locals, the village to the left of us have the internet and so does the village to the right of us... so hopefully I should be able to connect in the middle?

Anyway, I am going to the TOT shop tomorrow to dig further... I got the feeling we got fobbed off last time we called the call center, I dont mind paying a bit... wouldn't like to pay more than max 10k really but if it means getting the smart TV online (wife is happy) and me being able to use the internet properly so be it... I am currently using 4G and getting good speeds but to be honest I am constantly checking my data usage and its a ball ache,

Cheers

Did you tried talking to AIS?

Perhaps they could provide internet via Airnet (5ghz wifi adhoc from Ais base station / tower for mobile)
