45 day rule for extension of stay

Featured Replies

Yesterday my Thai wife and I went to Korat Immigration to file my application for extension of stay based on marriage. We were prepared with all the forms filled out, photos and my non-immigant "O" visa. After waiting for 3 hours, it was our turn and in short order the immigration officer told us that I still have 68 days left on my "O" visa and I need to return when there is 45 days left and then apply. Has anyone else had this experience? I thought I knew all the requirements, guess not!

The usual time for extensions is 30 days prior, tho some offices allow 45 and others will also if you are maybe travelling.

It has been mentioned many times on this forum that the earliest you can apply for an extension is during the last 30 days at most immigration offices and 45 day at others.
