PHUKET: -- Officials staging a drug raid in the central Phuket area of Tambon Thepkrasattri yesterday (August 4) arrested a taxi driver and his drug buddy teddy bear, stuffed with 171 meth pills.

Officials from Thalang Municipality, including District Chief Veera Kerdsirimongkol, arrested 22-year-old Sakchai Niyomdacha at his home in Moo Baan Phrusompharn at 3pm.

Chief Veera explained that officials staged the raid after receiving a tip-off from undercover police who said drug-selling activities were conducted inside the suspect’s home.

“We learned that Sakchai works as a taxi driver and sells drugs on the side to co-workers and local teenagers,” Chief Veera said.

“When we raided his home, we discovered packages containing meth pills hidden inside the teddy bear’s legs and several bundles of kratom leaves inside the stereo sound system.”

The kratom stash seized weighed in at half a kilo, and officers also seized B3,240 in cash at the scene.

Sakchai was taken to Thalang Police Station and charged with illegal possession of Category 1 drug with intent to sell and illegal possession of Category 5 drug.
