webfact
Bangkok Foundation and Pattaya Police round-up illegal foreign beggarsPATTAYA: -- Pattaya Police, in conjunction with the Mirror Foundation from Bangkok, conducted an operation on Sunday to remove Cambodian street beggars from the streets of Pattaya. The Foundation, an NGO which specializes in urban problems, received a number of complaints from Thai citizens who are concerned at the high level of foreign street beggars in Pattaya, many of them being children. The operation resulted in the detention of 14 Cambodians consisting of 8 adults and 6 children ranging in age from 10 months old to 16 years old. A total of 2,885 Baht in cash was also seized from the beggars, who all possessed no passports. It was determined they would be brought into Thailand through a border crossing in Sa-Keo Province, which is known to be a popular entry point for Cambodians who are normally brought over to Thailand by Thai agents.Source: http://pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/211271/bangkok-foundation-and-pattaya-police-round-up-illegal-foreign-beggars/-- Pattaya One 2015-08-
Hayduke
Illegal foreign beggars? What...as opposed to the legal ones? Once more the misguided attention is on symptoms as opposed to the disease. They can 'round up' all the foreign beggars they want but they'll be replaced tomorrow. How about rounding up the so-called agents who are behind this obscene traffic and shameful business? Edited August 10, 2015 by Hayduke
Toknarok
Yes, why no mention of any attempt to apprehend the human traffickers and gang members organising these beggars. Arresting the beggars is simply bandaiding. No wonder Thailand remains on tier 3 of the US report.
TheKnave
Begging is on the Protected Occupation list. No WP, no B visa, you're pinched.
Emster23
How about fast track work permits for this time honored occupation? Police really do have law of the jungle mentality: go after the weak and defenseless, ignore the strong and connected.

fred Kubasa
Considering the number of " illegals" from many countries, rounded up every week, everywhere in Thailand, one can wonder why Thailand has any, borders or airport immigration at all ? Another exercise in futility. They don't appear to be stopping anyone until after they commit their alleged crimes. Not at all surprised that immigration and police have the same leaders. Lorn
Yes, why no mention of any attempt to apprehend the human traffickers and gang members organising these beggars. Arresting the beggars is simply bandaiding. No wonder Thailand remains on tier 3 of the US report. Probably because they fear/know that finding out who the agents are bribing to carry on their trafficking would cause some embarrassment.

MartinBangkok
They should put the 10 month old in jail for at least 10 years for intentionally violating Thai immigrations laws. They will teach them. What a pathetic comment ! If this is the best you can do then keep well away from a keyboard. You ever heard of sarcasm glasswort? By your comment it seems it is above you. asmodeus
"A total of 2,885 Baht in cash was also seized from the beggars", presumably by the Police. How very brave, generous and thoughtful of those charitable Bangkok Police to relieve those poor Cambodian beggars of their miserable earnings... I feel like vomiting
