Samsung Galaxy S4

Featured Replies

A friend has brought a Samsung Galaxy S4 that was previously used on Verizon in America. Can it be used here? True can't seem to get it to work. SIM card is tested and fine.

It seems like it should work on TrueMove H here.

The SCH-I545 supports 3G/2100 MHz.

Could just be an APN configuration issue?

I don't think these are SIM-locked.

Actually my first question would be Is the phone unlocked?

The second is What is the model number?

From that you can work out what frequencies it supports.

It's unlocked, at least as far as I can determine. Many, many, many, many reports of this variant being un-locked.

The model number is is SCH-i545.

It supports 3G/2100 MHz (and several other 2G, 3G and LTE frequencies).

Again, it should work. Suspect it's just a simple APN issue.

If I were you, I'd go to a telephone shop and let them try what works. There're some brilliant guys out there. Even if they can't read English, they know what to do.

Good luck.

Seems to support a whole load of frequencies:

Frequencies and Data Type LTE: Bands 4/13; CDMA 1x/EVDO Rev.A: 800/1900MHz; HSPA+/UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100MHz; GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

My best experience has always been with AIS. Go to one of their shops and ask for a Techie, they usually have one who knows their stuff.

Best address in my opinion is "Telewiz". Shops are all over this country.

As this variant supports both 3G/850 and 3G/2100, one might be better off with TrueMove H or DTAC? (DTAC also still has 2G/1800.)

AIS would be the third choice; they barely have enough spectrum for their current customers.

And what does that mean?

I used their 3G to stream IPTV in Chiang Mai, so how bad can it be?

And what does that mean?

It's not complicated. AIS has the least amount of spectrum, and the most customers.

TrueMove H and DTAC have much more spectrum than AIS. They also have more frequencies. So for this phone, the better options might be TrueMove H or DTAC.

That's about as simply I can frame the options specifically for the OP.

AIS is a wonderful company, you're right, it's not that bad, and once they get some 4G/1800 MHz spectrum they'll be in a better position. Their expansion into fixed wireless broadband, and fiber broadband is brilliant, IMO.

OK what does it mean to the bloke with the Verizon S4? He won't be able to get calls and/or data on that phone?

This phone should work with AIS (3G/2100 MHz, and 900 MHz GSM900 for another 6 weeks), DTAC (3G/850, 3G/2100, GSM1800 until 2018) and TrueMove H (3G/850, 3G/2100).

The OP mentioned that they already had a TrueMove H SIM.

Based on all the posts I've read on this model, my sense is that it is unable to read the APN details off of the SIM - makes sense I guess as this ROM is meant to look for Verizon-specific APN details?
Anyway, I think the solution is fairly simple.
Examine the APN details for the TrueMove H SIM in the phone in which you successfully tested it. Then create a new APN on the SGS4 with those exact same details, save the new APN, select it, insert the TrueMove H SIM, Restart the phone. Check that the APN is selected.
These APN settings work for me with TrueMove H...
