SIHANOUKVILLE (Khmer Times) – Panoramas of the sea and nearby islands were interrupted briefly this week for some, by one of the largest ever guests to have visited the relatively small seaside city of Sihanoukville – cruise ship Dawn Princess.

According to the ship’s manufacturers – the same company that made the Costa Concordia – the gigantic luxury liner has a draft depth of about 8.2m, meaning she just about squeezed into Sihanoukville’s port, which has a maximum draft depth of 8.5m, according to officials.

“She was indeed a pretty big visitor,” said Anders J. Anderson, operations manager at Sihanoukville port.

“But as she’s a cruise vessel her draft will not extend as deep as other larger container vessels, for example, so this port can handle her,” he said.
