Prayut to change lineup at all ministries

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Thursday the upcoming Cabinet reshuffle would be a major one in which changes will be made to the lineup at all ministries.

He said there would be newcomers joining the Cabinet and the remaining current ministers will be transferred to new posts.

He denied reports that high profile figures such as leading former foreign ministers Surakiat Sathirathai and Surin Pitsuwan, and outgoing Bank of Thailand governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul were invited to join his Cabinet.

What is the point of having qualified ministers if all decisions are made by one man shooting from the hip? The only reason I can see for change is so that he will have a new group of patsies to blame when the economy is still in the toilet this time next year.

Yes I would be very interested in the different ways of not tackling the current or big issues as they have so far proved expert in.

More important to change the demeanour of the PM. He can have the most qualified ministers in the cabinet but if his attitude and overall presence don't change, he only gets a cabinet of discontent ministers or a cabinet of yes men. If he maintain his arrogance and temper and failed to see his shortcomings and inadequacies; this new cabinet will be short-live. Either ministers will leave or he will re-shuffle again. All up to his leadership. Personally I doubt he can change much to made this a efficient and effective cabinet.

BANGKOK: -- The upcoming Cabinet reshuffle is expected to be a major one as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said Thursday that there would be changes in all ministries.

He also said that new people would be joining the Cabinet, and some ministers' portfolios might be switched.

"I will change ministers as appropriate, and every change will definitely affect other posts. Some outsiders will be coming in, some will have to leave and some will be swapped," Prayut said.

This government started working in September last year and the premier had earlier said that he would reshuffle his Cabinet once his administration completes a year.

He said he was ready to submit the new list for Royal endorsement, but had to wait until the outsiders had accepted their posts and the current ministers had accepted their removal.

However, Prayut denied reports that high-profile individuals, such as former foreign ministers Surakiat Sathirathai and Surin Pitsuwan, and outgoing Bank of Thailand governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul, had been invited to join his Cabinet.

"Are you crazy?" he responded, when asked about Prasarn.

PM admits entire cabinet shakeup with new faces to be brought in



BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha appeared to have lost his cool when pressed by reporters about speculation of cabinet reshuffle.

Asked about the progress of his cabinet reshuffle, the prime minister shot back at the reporter: “Why? The report that Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi ( former secretary-general of UNCTAD) was included was not true. I have not said a word and I have not thought of anyone yet.”

Asked whether former ASEAN secretary-general Surin Pitsuwan has been approached to join his cabinet, the prime minister retorted: “No approach. Why approach?”

Pressed on by another reporter whether the foreign minister would be replaced, he shot back at the reporter: “Why? Do you hate him or not? Which ministers that you media hate? There are the transport minister and the foreign minister. Do you hate them?”

The reporter responded explaining that it was not about hate but about the suitability of the ministers and public reactions.

The prime minister responded: “How about the public sentiment? What did they say about the ministers? Answer me.”

The prime minister however said that the entire cabinet would be reshuffled and outsiders would be brought in. He further said that he didn’t know when the new cabinet list would be submitted for Royal endorsement.

Perhaps this new cabinet will finally be able to make the price of lottery tickets a priority. Surely that's more important than graft, human trafficking, illegal fishing, falling investment, falling exports, a shrinking economy and bank solvency, Perhaps it can finally get the academics, students, and local and foreign reporters to ST*U with their opinions. Perhaps they can give The Associated Press an attitude adjustment and stop it from investigating and reporting on human slavery or horrors, elections.

And don't forget the most critical strategic task - taking away Thaksin's rank. The last cabinet wasn't able to achieve this, but if the new cabinet throws all of their collective energy and skill into the task, it might get done. Then they can get on with the lesser tasks like actually running the country.
