PHUKET: -- A Korean tourist died after being recovered from heavy surf at Karon beach, on Phuket’s southwwest coast, this afternoon (August 13).

Mr Qi Dhun Hua, 43, was pronounced dead on arrival Patong Hospital. His daughter, who has yet to be anmed by the authorities, survived.

Beach guards reported that Mr Qi and his daughter ignored red “no swimming” flags and entered the dangerous surf, and soon were swept away from the beach by large waves.

Lifeguards on patrol quickly recovered the pair from the heavy surf, but Mr Qi was already conscious.

He was taken to hospital after first-responders administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the beach while tourists looked on.

Ignored the flags or simply had no idea of their meaning?

Maybe the red flags (International warning not to enter the water) and heavy surf waves were clues that perhaps swimming was a bit risky.

I have to rise the question,

what qualification do have this rescue teams and first aid in Phuket - and thailand,

we know in europe , how many sucessfull rescues we have, stil when the victim where drown for minutes ;

But here people still alife, but just sespiratry problems,

but all what seems this lifeguards know to do, is to wait the ambulance -

and ambulance propably also not equipped, no emergency devices, no doctor,

they just obliged to bring the victim " death 2 to the hospital for exhumination ;

Very Said !

Phuket seems to be also a HUB of drowing !!

Since you have raised the question.

The rescue teams in Phuket are actually very good and save a lot of people.

They are well trained and experienced.

They actually risk their lives to help people!

And since when are doctors part of a standard ambulance crew in Europe or anywhere else?

People who have drowned in Europe for many minutes are saved, absolute rubbish. You obviously have no medical training.

It is almost impossible to resuscitate someone who has been drowned for several minutes!

The only correct point is they have no AED which would of course help.

The issue here is they ignored the warnings and Karon has very big waves and currents.

Sad, but they shouldn't have been in the water!

Know what your saying, but when it comes down to it clearly more is required to end this problem of too many tourist drownings in Phuket.

Prominent Multi lingual signage might help.

Those signs are there already. Problem is not communication but tourists leaving their brain st home.
