Back in Thailand with Thai wife for 4th trip. I had never gotten sick here but more than once my wife's friends got sick at same meal. I thought I had an ironclad stomach.

South of Khon Kaen yesterday we picked up some roadside check. Just a setup along road. Picked up 2 chickens that were chopped up on a wood cutting board.

We went then to meet her family. They had food like somtam already prepared. Hours later on the family farm without modern bathroom facilities had to go to bathroom several times. That night it hit me and ended up suddenly and late having to hit the toilet. Definitely don't want to experience that on a plane.

Have had aches and pains and headaches and sleeping the last 24 hours. Feels like full recovery by tomorrow morning.

You dont say where you live, what Country, My wife lives in the UK, The thing is that there bodys get sanitized, When the Mrs goes back to Thailand she has to be careful the same as i do after a week she is ok, her Thai immune system kicks in ,

Even in the States your hygiene is probably better than some of Thailand. My wife can eat anyhting In Thailand, but after staying in the UK she has to be careful now for the first few days

Definitely. Lucky and nearly back to normal 24 hours later. Mistake to buy from roadside stand that doesn't have a ton of business. Don't know.

I would also suspect the Som Tam. Because it doesn't get heated. If some bug sits on it, it isn't killed. Also if there is seafood inside it is dangerous.

While wood cutting board is usually good....it is only when it is cleaned good. If they prepare the raw chicken in the morning, don't clean it or rub it off with the same old fabric they use the last 2 month and than use it in the afternoon it infects the chicken again.

I have 15 staff here in Bangkok and once a month one get a food poisoning. They still continue to eat from the same dirty places......Slow learner they are.....

One golden rule, Just stay around for a short while, see who is using the Restaurant or street food vendor, I have never had any bad stomach or any other problem eating out anywhere in Thailand,

I avoid the little black crabs in Som Tam. They make me sick everytime I forget to say "Mai ow puu!"
