PHUKET: -- Police believe that a Myanmar woman found dead on Patong Beach last night (August 16) drowned after being overpowered by strong waves.

Police were called to the scene, in front of Loma Park, opposite the football field on Thaweewong Rd (the Patong beach road), at 8:28pm.

“When we arrived, a lifeguard was administering CPR to the woman, who remained unconscious, before rescue workers transported to her Patong Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival,” said Maj Pattapee Srichay of the Kathu police.

Beach-goers at the scene told police that the woman, identified as Miss Thi Da, 38, was found on the beach, soaking wet and covered with sand.

She was identified by her passport and other identification documents found inside her purse nearby. One of the identification cards noted that Miss Th Da also went by the name of Su Da. As of last year, she was registered as living at an address in Moo 1 Rassada, north of Phuket Town.

Her passport noted her place of birth as Thayetchaung, south of the major port town of Dawei in the southernmost Taninthayi Division of Myanmar.

“We asked around and no one on the beach said that they knew the victim or saw her in the area before her body was found,” said Maj Pattapee.

Police are attempting to contact Miss Thi Da’s former employer noted on her social security health insurance card issued last year, he added.

“There were no wounds or signs of foul play,” said Maj Pattapee. “We presume that Ms Thi Da drowned and had been dead for at least one hour before we arrived, but we will wait for doctors to confirm the hour and the cause of death.

“And we will try to locate her family and notify them of her demise.”

RIP.

something some how doesn't sound right in this story.

She stripped down to tee shirt and underwear to go for a nocturnal swim in heavy surf. Not normal behaviour for a Burmese lady I would think.

Perhaps she had emotional problems.

A few weeks back a 20 yo Chinese student was found dead on a beach in Pattaya...was her COD ever established???

If you hold some ones head under water they will drown. Just have to look for bruising!
