Wissanu satisfied with amendments to draft charter

BANGKOK: -- After a meeting with Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said he was satisfied with certain parts of the draft charter, as most of the government's proposals had been considered and amendments introduced accordingly.

"I am satisfied that the draft has been changed in accordance with the Cabinet's proposals. However, I haven't seen the entire draft, so can't say whether I'm satisfied with all of it at this point," he said.

Wissanu represented the Cabinet at a meeting with the CDC yesterday for the final round of the draft charter review before it is tabled for voting by the National Reform Council (NRC) on September 6.

He also said that at this point he cannot say whether this charter could help resolve past political, economic and social problems, because he has not yet studied the entire content.

As for the National Strategic Reform and Reconciliation Committee (NSRRC) issue, Wissanu it was possible to write a clause that gives special powers to the committee should the country be in a crisis. He pointed out that in times of crisis, the NSRRC would be able to find solutions, thus avoiding a coup.

However, he said, it should be careful about using excessive power.

The deputy premier also said he would call a meeting with the Election Commission, the Interior Ministry's Department of Provincial Administration, the Budget Bureau and the CDC next week to make preparations for the referendum process ahead of the NRC's voting on the draft charter. This includes the process of distributing copies of the charter to 19 million households, explain the past problems and the solutions it will offer.

Wissanu also said referendum process was still inconclusive and he did not know if political parties could participate in it.

"in times of crisis, the NSRRC would be able to find solutions, thus avoiding a coup."

Isn't that realy just another kind of coup?

And Suthep will be very useful in order to show there is a crisis, thus leading to "coup without coup" or "clean coup".
