First of its kind museum of corruption to be opened

BANGKOK: -- The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand is making preparations to open the country's first "National Museum of Political Corruption" that will highlight 10 important corruption cases in Thailand’s history.

The museum will be the first of its kind in the world and its opening will coincide with the National Anti-Corruption Day on September 6.

Pramon Suthiwong, the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand, revealed yesterday that the “National Museum of Political Corruption” will expose 10 major corruption cases that happened in Thailand.

As a consequence, the museum will also publicly condemn the individuals involved in the cases which resulted in massive loss and damage to the country.

The public will also be shown how in each case these corrupt individuals had perpetrated their schemes so that in future they will be forewarned of similar machinations and not permit such individuals to gain a foothold in the country.

The message being sent out is a warning to the public that corruption unchecked can severely damage and cripple an entire nation, he said.

The 10 major corruption cases that will be showcased are the rice pledging schemes, police station construction fraud, the Raisom media corruption scandal case, the Bangkok Film Festival case, the Klong Darn water treatment scheme fraud, the primary school futsal pitch scandal, the Longan scandal, police booth LED advertising signboards fraud, the scandal involving a former minister of the Ministry of Transport, and the grey-market automobile case.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha will be the guest of honor and will preside over the opening ceremony which coincides with the National Anti-Corruption Day on September 6.

According to the anti graft organisation, the government’s next course in the battle against corruption will involve the establishment of a master-plan that will setup careful strategies and wide ranging measures to tackle corruption in all forms.

The plan aimed urging all Thais to take a more proactive role and become more involved in the matter.

Are they not in danger of overstepping the mark in showcasing cases of corruption which the courts have not even given verdicts on yet?

So current gov is not corrupted? They all milionairies, and they already secured top positions with family members :)

It could fairly soon be like Taiwans Museum....With levels and levels of underground floors used for storage of all the items not on display......

Funniest thing I've read in a loooooooooooooong time.

literally making corruption an art form.

As long as this museum will be as big as the Sahara desert, it will not be big enough to contain

all the specimens that needed to be exhibited to illustrate the magnitude of corruptions in Thailand,

This is an very short list. I can think of many more cases which should be on display. Then again vested police and politicians interests are a no go area.

Museum sounds so after completing past.
Better to name it as a permanent exhibition of corruption.

Can be seen everywhere.
Also they do not need to rent any extra showrooms.

They could open such a Museum every day size of Louvre in Paris ...

So basically an educational building for school kids to visit and learn from.

How much of these corruption cases have been cleared up?
How many convictions have occurred?
How many corrupts sit actually in prison?

The most interesting point will be whether they name names, and how they use those names. In very few of those cases listed above have there been trials and convictions, making the use of names very tricky indeed, yet naming and shaming would be a major raison d'etre for such a museum. So, with the need to pussyfoot around each subject, I suspect a good book distributed free would serve the purpose just as well of highlighting corruption.

Why a museum that few people will visit?

Why not a website called Dirtythailand.com highlighting all the corruption, scams and individuals that have benefitted that will live forever online...

Good idea...poorly executed.

I hope that also have a user submission section were people can also upload pictures and videos of corruption, not just "large scale" corruption. It starts with small scale.

Good grief, with the amount of corruption that exists in the country, this must be the biggest museum of it's kind.

Maybe a Madame Tussaud's style display of a BiB with his arm in a car window.

Yes, like they have in india.

An absolute cracker of another lets pretend we are tackling corruption. We will have a museum.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Like others have said will the top elite be in this 'Madam Tussauds' of corruption. I doubt the very top will get a mention.

Wired, a corruption museum. I'm all for publicly shaming these people caught red handed, Not just allegation's but this is wired.

Isn't Thailand all about saving face??? Ahhh but wait it's selected corruption scandals.

What palm oil scandal? What dodgy land deals for rich mates? What blue diamond? What human trafficking? What murders? What microphones?

What large bank transfers? WHAT WHAT WHAT???

Nice cherry pickingwhistling.gif

And not a mention of one certain ex-prime minister who is now in exile and a wanted criminal??

What a stupid idea.

This has got to be a political beat up as there is nothing about Suthep and his land theft scandals or the Palm Oil plots of his. Perhaps he will be running this fantasy show.

Great idea.

The list contains corruption almost everywhere, in sports, education, politics, transport, agriculture and the police is in it twice.

I did not know the RTP were opening there own museum

pretty good site, if you start something like that here you will probably be dead before you know it. Heck you cant even post anything negative on Facebook without the government coming after your back if your post gets too much attention.

I wonder how many back handers it'll take to get the place opened?

Nice timing.

They can't be that short of money and funding if they have sufficient for this. Here was me reading that the cut in their budget was desperately affecting their ability to function properly and have enough resources........

How then are the ticket prices?
For Thais 40 baht and
For foreigners 400 Baht?
