Gigantic ganja bust in capital

Featured Replies

A police raid led to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of nearly 1.5 tonnes of dried marijuana as well as drying and packing machines in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district, according to officials.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court Deputy Prosecutor Seang Sok said the operation was conducted by the anti-drug department of the National Police at around 7pm on Friday, and lasted until Saturday morning, after the police received a warrant authorising the operation.

Sok said that four suspects were arrested.

However, Khiev Samon, director of the Anti-Drug Department, maintained that only three suspects had been detained, interrogated and sent to court.

Cambodia would be a lot smarter to let pot be bought and sold, and perhaps try to get some taxes. Trying to criminalize pot is like trying to kill ants with a baseball bat. It's the US's DEA which is giving Cambodia (and many other small countries) money to criminalize non-harmful drugs. Ironically, the US is coming around to reason about pot. Just one state, Colorado, got 4.5 million $$'s in taxes from pot sold legally - last year.

Cambodia is also falling in to the same stupid hole of criminalizing a non-harmful drug, while allowing the most harmful drug, alcohol, to be used everywhere without a care. Beer and booze companies love that. And all the old men who make and uphold the laws are booze drinkers. Go figure.

Drug haul was heading to West
Wed, 26 August 2015

Anti-drug authorities yesterday announced that the nearly 1.5 tonnes of marijuana seized last Friday was destined for Europe, where it would have fetched millions of dollars.

The head of the Anti-Drug Department at the National Police, Khieu Saman, said at a press conference yesterday that the August 21 crackdown, which followed a lengthy investigation, saw marijuana storage and processing sites raided in three different places in Russey Keo and Meanchey districts.

The raids netted 1,487 kilograms of dried marijuana and 1.5 kilograms of concentrated marijuana oil, along with equipment for processing the drug.

so.... let the Europeans have a bunch of pot to smoke. If they want to pay for it, what's the problem? Dangerous drivers? Wife beatings? bar brawls? No, those problems are not from pot, but rather from booze. If more Europeans smoke pot, maybe they'll gain a bit of peaceful solace from the barrage of Muslims streaming in to their sphere.
