Thai court indicts British activist Andy Hall

so a company takes Andy to court and its the govts fault, that makes a lot of sense, blame the govt for a company that loses face and wants something done. Got to ask why didnt you guys jump on the ptp when the original case was filed while they were in charge or doesnt that count. Pretty pathetic for anyone to try to blame any govt for something a private citizen does but then you lot are pretty desperate now all your red/ptp mates are being caught up for all the corrupt practices so you need to blame the current mob for something started when the ptp were in. Why cant you just accept that thai laws are not really up to scratch and that no govt has ever tried to change them

The government with the head of justice department overlooks the laws so yes it is a government problem.

The justice system so needs reforms but then again as long is suits the political elites no change of of course.

Oh yes and now its about PTP/Reds - I don't think Andy has any political affiliation in Thailand but you of course need to troll around. hit-the-fan.gif

Wait! Do you mean that LannaGuy wasn't just talking about the stupidity of the company in question BUT was actually trying to score political brownie points. Surely not! Is that what you were doing LannaGuy?

Aussieinthailand.. Gotta ask why wasn't it changed previously by at least one of the " democratic " governments in power within the last 10 years?

yup including one in which your hero Suthep was deputy PM? this law should be repealed and the Military Junta you so love has absolute POWER, as they have the guns, so why not forget the past and get rid of it now or do you support the harassment and bullying of this VERY BRAVE guy? Cometh the hour cometh the General but he will throw anyone under the bus who does not support his nationalistic fever and all sing when he tell's them too

How many years, this century has Thailand been governed by a Shin popular democratically elected government?

How many years this century has the Thailand been governed by someone else?

Now, in all those years, how come the Shins didn't zilch, zero, now't about these laws? Could it because their leader, patron and man of the people, the erstwhile Dr. Pol Lt Col Thaksin used them more than any other PM to stifle comments in the media he disliked?

But of course, you like to pretend all the things the Shins chose to ignore for their own benefit can be instantly put right over night,

Yu'p fair call,

"Governments within the last 10 years" hmm but wait wasn't there another government slotted in there somewhere??? The name Mark ring a bell???

Butt yes you are quite right the judicial system is manipulated by the powers of the day, what's in it for them, and the size of the brown paper bag.

This should have been resolved long long ago and those that won't fix it NOW are just as complicit as those pervious.

Fair call?

Paper bag - you mean Pastry Box?

And one political wannabee dynasty was in power for the majority of this century. Did nothing about addressing this law so presumable thought it o k - well Thaksin did use it regularly when wanting to stop the media writing things he disliked.

come on Rubl, ddjamie, H90, Bearboxer defend this!

Are you really such a glutton for punishment you want to be asked if you are aware that Thaksin is a convicted criminal and that the rice scheme cost the country x ammount of Baht yet again?

Don't worry Mr. Baboon, it's just the children playing again. They can't remember which parties were in power for most of this century and weren't ever interested in amending this awful law. Perhaps because their owner, controller and supreme leader actually used it quite a lot to deter journalists saying and writing comments he didn't like.

They're still in denial, bless their little cotton socks.

we agree on something at last! "popular democratically elected government" well done!

now my old Chief Exec liked to say "we are where we ARE" I don't support Shin or Thaksin and whether he did something or NOWT is irrelevant

the Military have COMPLETE control and can change anything they wish with NO mandate, NO election and NO comeback and they choose not too

Andy is a hero plain and simple, has been found innocent, and now will be back in the Military backed Court and YOU defend it. You are... well... amazing :)

Your obsessed pal really you are and its clouding your reasoning towards other equally despicable practices and strong arming still being allowed to continue.

Prayutyh has all the power no other civilian leader has.

He simply has to declare article 44 and ban this law of defamation when its proven the truth was told.... its easily argued to be exceedingly damaging to the nations image and well being.

Or would you say this is a just and good law for Thailand ?

I hope Andy takes it all the way and ends up an international PR nightmare for Thailand and natural fruit , they deserve every lost baht of revenue.

Natural Fruit is doing their best to intimidate Andy Hall by following him around and taking his photograph any time he appears. The fact that the Thai court is charging him is certainly appalling and disgusting. The world needs people like Andy Hall that fight for basic human rights. Here will be yet another trial that the world will watch to see if Thailand is capable of doing the right thing.

More embarrassment for Thailand.

Good. Because the only thing that gets Thais to actually do something is the potential for loss of face. More effective than any trade embargoes. Keep the pressure on and a miracle may just happen.

To be fair.. LannaGuy kinda mentioned Police Capital Doctor Shinawatra before anyone else did, he was helped along by Aussieguy.

I actually mentioned governments in the last 10 years, that would include ALL governments. I wasn't aiming at anyone in particular..

Strange The finnish government cutting funding to finnwatch a week before this trial,

.The new Finnish government want to promote export and investment in developing countries by Finnish companies and seem to have pushed corporate responsibility aside.

This, IMHO, is an excellent example and opportunity for reform. The "gauntlet" has been thrown down. The wrongdoing is researched, vetted by publishers and has been internationally reported. Now, if the junta is indeed recognizing the need for reform, now is the time to set an example for Thailand and the world to see.

A person or company accused, with evidence presented, cannot use the courts to stifle reporting facts. No more, loss of face, even if guilty. If the Thai government is not strong enough to take this route and no longer use the "lese majesty" laws to stifle political opposition ... Well, then, OK continue your empty words but do not expect world citizens to give any credulence. Please understand, I am a hopeful optimist but have seen little to encourage such a view and hope for Thailand.

They're simply out of money and are kicking in austerity. Everything is being cut.

Here is Andy making a complaint to the police in Samui that Burmese people driving without a license (breaking the law !) are paying to much bribe money.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/787977-myanmar-migrant-bike-fines-by-thai-police-excessive-ngo/

Post 15 makes a good point

Seems he has no problem with burmese people driving without a license, with road deaths being one of the biggest cause of death in thailand.

Humans rights for all ! (free speech)

You clearly have some kind of agenda against Andy Hall Tony, your posts over on the Koh Tao thread suggests you have an axe to grind?

As for The Junta using article 44 to help him, and kick this stupid law into touch, why would they do this ? when he's potentially about to make them all look like complete fools with his "bombshell evidence" in the Koh Tao murder trial, if anything the powers that be would rather see Andy Hall "disappear" as he's the proverbial "thorn in their side".

You beat me to it. There is clearly a personal interest in discrediting Mr. Hall here in my opinion.

What ever your problem is with Andy Hall you should leave off these threads I think it is very low that you keep trying to trash him .

Andy Hall deserves a lot a credit for guts he has showed standing up for people's rights There are not many people that take on jobs like that

I believe your similar posts were deleted from another thread for doing the same thing.

I have questioned why Andy hid Important facts in the small print on his fundraiser page, then the Andy Hall fan club said I should be banned for defaming Andy.

So it seems only certain people get free speech !

But you won't see any negative posts about Andy in the Koh Tao thread because someone keeps having them removed !

And no Agenda I have always been in full support of Hannah and Davids Family, and what some people have written about them on the internet is truly disgusting.

Also how do you you think the british public would react to a Foriegn human rights worker came to England saying that Immigrants should be allowed to drive without a license and uninsured ? good idea ?

Seeing that you think you know so much why don't volunteer and give some free help to some of the poor migrates instead sitting behind a keyboard and bad mouthing andy .

Like I said, you seem to have a personal issue with Andy Hall, whatever floats your boat, as for your posts being removed, it's because they've been reported to the moderators, and the moderators will be the ones removing them, if they deem them to be in breach of the forum rules.

Where do I defend it - once again you libel and change a post to suit your own political agenda?

Andy will be contesting in a civil court not a military court. And again, you try to suggest the current government can change laws we Westerners don't like at a whim, whilst previous governments didn't have any issue with the same laws.

Again, show me where I defend this action or retract your incorrect statement.
