I am looking for a water heater, low price range (3-5000) - there are a bewildering array of brands, can anyone recommend a brand - is steibel good?

Much depends what you want.

Personally I like my showers hot not all the time obviously as it gets sticky here,but to enable that I purchased a 6kw Electrolux and couldn't be happier.

Some of the cheaper models are only 3 kW etc and barely get hot.

I have never purchased Steibel so can not comment on that brand.

By under counter, online... I mean the water heater is connected to the incoming water line located under the sink in the bathrooms and kitchen.

I kept well away from a shower wall water heater - I have concerns regarding the potential for electrocution with those heaters which Mount on the wall in the shower cubicle.

I shower in Marigolds and Wellington Boots when using Budget Accommodation...

In an attempt to meet your requests I checked into some budget accommodation... After donning Marigolds and Wellington boots and stepping over the bathtub threshold the showercurtain of questionable taste at the Motel-Ropey confessed its inanimate love for human kind wrapping itself around me. I slipped on my selfie stick causing irreparable damage to my ego and presenting an extremely difficult explanation to emergency services...

If ThaiVisa.com picks up the story of a naked Foreigner, dressed in rubber boots and gloves, a shower curtain as a cape with a selfie stick don't jump to the wrong conclusions... It was all in the name of science...

Regarding safety, i will find a model with a rear facing cable outlet and put the cable into the wall, then tile over it fully waterproofed - but replacing it would be a bitch so i want a reliable brand.
