Singapore goes to the polls on Sept 11

Koh Samui prison break inmates back behind bars

KOH SAMUI: -- Yesterday (25th August) three inmates of the Koh Samui Provincial Prison took part in a prison break. The trio reportedly made their dash for freedom by jumping four meters from the prison roof, one inmate was injured so jail break badly he was immediately captured, unable to flee the scene.

PM leads military top brass to wish Gen Prem on his 95th birthday anniversary

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha led his cabinet ministers and military top brass to wish Privy Council chairman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda on his 95th birthday anniversary today at Sisao Theves official residence.

In addition to wishing the former premier and army chief happy birthday, they also came to receive his blessing at the event.

Continuous rain forecast in the North and South

BANGKOK, 26 August 2015 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has forecast that the upper parts of Thailand as well as the South will continue to experience precipitation.


According to the weather report, a monsoon trough in Laos and Myanmar will bring more rain to the northern and northeastern provinces of Thailand.

Meanwhile, a southwesterly wind in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will also bring wet weather conditions to the East and South of the country.

Fishermen have been told to exercise caution when leaving the shore, as waves are expected to have a maximum height of two meters in the Andaman Sea.

Meanwhile, it is expected to rain today in 30% of the area of Bangkok and its vicinity.

Military reshuffle list submitted for royal consideration

BANGKOK, 26 August 2015 (NNT) – The annual military reshuffle list name has been submitted for royal endorsement, according to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.


General Prayut confirmed on Tuesday that the list for appointment of positions in the armed forces had indeed been submitted for His Majesty the King's consideration. Responding to media anticipations of the appointment of General Preecha Chan-o-cha as the next commander-in-chief of the army, Gen. Prayut asserted that each potential candidate for the post were all qualified and people should not worry whether his younger brother would become the new army chief.

Meanwhile, Admiral Kraisorn Chansuwanich, the commander-in-chief of the navy, said on Tuesday that the most appropriate candidate for the top navy post has been selected despite all candidates being competent. He added that in reaching the decision, consideration was given to the current circumstances within the country and the need to maintain peace and order.

Restoration of Thao Maha Phrom statue to be completed on Sept 3
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The restoration of the Thao Maha Phrom statue at the Erawan Shrine will take nine days and will be completed on September 3, Fine Arts Department Deputy Director General Sahaphume Phumtharittirat said Wednesday.

Sahaphume led officials of the department to inspect the statue of the Hindu god of creation Lord Brahma at 10 am to get preparation for the restoration.

He said the statue was damaged at four spots - the chin, the necklace, the right index and right shin. The roof of the statue was also damaged.

The restoration would take about Bt70,000 from the Erawan Thao Maha Phrom Foundation.

A grand rite will be held on September 4 celebrate the restored statue, he added.

65 illegal migrant workers arrested in Chiang Mai
