Apologies if these questions have been asked before but here goes:

I have had it from an agent in Penang that the thai consulate are only issuing single entry non immigrant visas now, no more multi entry. I am going there next month to apply for an O type visa based on marriage. My questions are:

1. If I am issued the visa, when do I apply for an extension of stay at immigration in Bangkok and what do I need to show?

2. If I do not apply for an extension of stay, can I apply for another non immigrant O or B visa outside Thailand after the first one expires and if so, will I get it?

3. Does anyone know of any other close by thai consulate that is still issuing multi entry visas?

Thanks a bunch.

1. During the last 30 days of your 90 day entry. Wife, passport, arrival card, marriage certificate, wife id card, wife home register, bank passbook, bank letter, photos together. Other items could be required so it is best to ask - they probably have a handout. Requirement is 400k baht. Both you and wife have to appear and sign documents/copies of proof.

2. Yes you can apply again. Probably will get it.

3. KL and Singapore were at last report. And Penang was, a while ago, for previous applicants but perhaps that has changed. If you have bank passbook with a good balance I would take that to Penang if you do go there as it might help if there is not a total ban on multi issue. It has been reported they would no longer issue tourist visas for more than one entry.

Panic and concern in almost every posting regarding a Visa or regarding the issue of a

visa. I would prefer to read something substantial e.g. a statement from the Thai counsellors

in charge about their visa policy.

It's quite interesting. It all started with the scrapping of the 30-day border run and now each

and every visa seems to be affected! No more visas at all?

I have heard from a friends friend friend.... but where is the proof? All I read is speculation.

I am not complaining about the postings or the author of a posting but the speculations

and (maybe) wrong information given to the public! The issue of a visa is a very personal matter between the

applicant and the issuing authority. But that's my humble opinion only.

Penang issue 3 months the first trip, 1 year multi entry the second time and on (O-visa, being married).

Don't think this has changed the latest weeks...

tHE PENANG OFFICE IS PROBABLY TRYING TO SCARE AWAY THE FLOOD OF VISA RUNNERS.

as for visa policy the Hull Uk consulate posting on Thai visa is the most optimistic

Let me get this right,

I will most likely get a 3 month single entry first trip, then if I don't apply for an extension in Bangkok and I go to Penang again before the 3 month expiry and apply for another non immigrant O I may be granted a multi entry visa?

Is there an additional requirement for this? Will I have to show 400K in the bank to get this multi entry? Anyone with personal experience?

I am in the same sit as you. I called penang and they said they would only give me 3 months as i had not beem there before. I called KL and singapore and they both said no problems for a 1 year multiple entry O visa. So I checked air asia and singapore was alot cheaper, so i plan to go to singapore, and after reading others information on penang in other posts, id try KL or Singapore as well if i was you. Good luck.

This thread will tell you part of what you want to know.

If you are British I would say, "Go to Hull"

or "Go to Brisbane" for the Aussie

I got my multi non-O from Hull last week. Took two days.

I spoke to them first, explaining that I'm here with my Thai wife for a month and had our marriage certificate (in Thai). They'd have preferred it in English, but accepted our version. Also sent a copy of wife's passport (details, UK visa and entry stamp) and copy of her ID card (both have my surname now).

The woman at Hull intimated that they were issuing plenty of these visas still, so I would assume that they're not all for married couples, but also for those seeking to "visit family or friends/ extended stay".
