Heavily pregnant Kantana Siwathanapon, accompanied by her lawyer, reports to police yesterday to fight allegations over the dubious transfer of shares worth more than |Bt220 million by late construction tycoon Chuwong Saetang just days before his death.

BANGKOK: -- A HEAVILY-pregnant woman has surrendered to police to face charges relating to her receiving more than Bt220 million worth of shares from the late construction tycoon Chuwong Saetang - a transfer police deem suspicious.

Chuwong died on June 26, just days after the share transfer took place, prompting his family to lodge complaints with police.

It remains unknown if Chuwong really died in a car accident.

Kantana Siwathanapon, who was more than 20 years younger than Chuwong, surrendered yesterday and has denied any wrongdoing.

She has told police that she and the tycoon had been romantically involved, that she is carrying his child and he willingly transferred his shares to her.

Police, however, have charged her with theft, falsifying rights documents and using falsified rights documents.

Kantana was brought to the Criminal Court yesterday for temporary detention, but her lawyer managed to secure her a temporary release.

The Court agreed to release her on Bt5 million bail.

She is expected to give birth in the next two weeks.

Her lawyer, Sansern Senachu, said it was not the right time to discuss if his client would allow the baby to undergo DNA tests to determine if the child was Chuwong's.

Three other suspects in the Chuwong share transfer case were released on bail earlier. Among them is Pol Lt-Colonel Banyin Tangpakorn, a former deputy commerce minister.

Banyin has told police that after a golfing round with Chuwong on June 26, he was driving him home when the car crash occurred.

Chuwong's family suspected foul play after discovering the huge volume of shares transferred to Kantana and another woman two days earlier.

In a related development, Banyin yesterday submitted a petition to national police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang asking him not to transfer the Chuwong case to the Crime Suppression Division.

"The CSD has searched six of my houses illegitimately," Banyin claimed. He said he would also lodge a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission because he felt he had not been treated fairly by the CSD.

It's been said before but where on earth does a golf caddie find 5 million baht to post as bail money. All these crooks deserve to be strung up if what many suspect has gone on actually is proved to have gone on.

The DNA test should have been required by the court as part of her condition of bail. They should also have strung out the bail hearing to put pressure on her to turn against Banyin, the mastermind of the murder plot. At the same time, all of Banyin's assets should be seized. Obviously, he has unusually profited while feeding at the government trough.

Haven't been playing golf in Thailand for long, have we?

lol, if you called her a 'pregnant pretty' in the UK you would be strung up by the balls and horsewhipped to teach you some political correctness.

But presumably not if you called her a 'pregnant model', which is basically all the term means in Thai. Even loan words have different meanings in different languages.

Err thank you for the information - but putting apostrophes around the word pretty seems to disagree with the theory it is simply a badly chosen word.

If it is Chuwongs baby, it may be in her interest to do the DNA test.

I'm not sure if a baby Heir is eligible for any of Chumongs billions, but I see no downside submitting to the test IF IT IS Chuwongs baby...at least it lends some credibility to the transfer if the baby is his.

Of course, if she does not want to submit...then there must be a reason...

It's also been said before that she used to be a golf caddie before she became romantically involved with a billionaire.

Bail money can be put up by anyone, it doesn't necessarily come from the accused resourses.

What murder plot? The cause of death has not been determined to have been murder. Neither has Banyin been identified as the mastermind of anything, never mind a mastermind of an as yet non-existant murder plot.

Why should Banyin's assets be seized? He was a business partner of the billionaire deceased so it would be likely that he was wealthy, don't you think? Why accuse him of illegally enriching himself without evidence?

Not if you were bright enough to understand that being a "pretty" is a Thai description of a career that some girls follow. It's nothing to do with being patronising to the girl.

No, it doesn't, the apostrophes are there to indicate that the word is not necessarily a description of her appearance.

It doesn't have to be cash in all cases as well I believe.... You can "owe" them the bail or put your property up for security etc, in some other countries too, if you don't show up at your trial, they catch you and then you lost your bail amount and stay on remand in jail for the original charge
