Can anyone help me decipher these postal offerings from the Thai postal web site (www.thailandpost.co.th)? I can figure out the more obvious entries, but what is SAL? Also, what is Extensions Service?

SAL - possibly Surface Air Letter = part of its journey by air and part by land

So...how exactly does a letter get to the U.S. or Australia? Wouldn't that by definition be part of the way by air?

Hi SAL is Sea and Land, is a little bit faster than by land, but can easily take 2 months to Europa and 2 - 3 months to USA.

Small packet are packets or envelopes closed with a rope or staples, packet can be opened by customs. If you close a packet with tape it will be charged as a letter (more expensive).

Parcels are all packets above 2 kg.

Hope this is helpful.

So if I send a letter Surf (Surface?) and I send a letter Air, what is the difference in route?

I'm probably going to send it Surface and see what happens.

All pacets can be opened by customs. Small packets can be opened by Thai General Post Officers to check that you didnt attach a letter. Small packets and Printed matter are cheaper, but if you want to attach a letter you must pay for Parcel or letter.

Hmmm .... very funny rules. My question: advantage for ???? hmmmm
