New Government

Featured Replies

Toxin did not really like us farangs and 95 % of the farangs did not like him.

One of the first steps of the military gouverment was to exchange the boss of immigration.

Did anyone hear any rumours if it gets more friendly?

Nope ... why should it?

The Former head of Imm .... was a close ally of Thaksin ... he didn't put the rules up on his own ...

Thaksin was kind of a far-right, Thailand for Thais kinda guy. Before him the policies were far more lax. It is entirely concievable that as the government goes back to the way it was before, and so do the policies.

While one of the first things WAS to replace the Imm boss, it could be entirely due to his close relationship with Thaksin, and nothing whatsoever to do with policy. Of course, its FAR to early to tell....

Yes and if you continue your thoughts "close ally of Thaksin ... he didn't put the rules up on his own". his master is also gone.

So new imm boss and new gouverment which has some different ideas about many things Thaksin did.

So it might possible that they have new ideas about Farangs and Visas. Till now they didn't talk anything "anti-farang"....

I mean that his entire department's worth of bosses would have looked at it. After the Karr fiasco and the other major screw-ups ... I don't see any changes from what has been laid out in the near future! Way too much on CNN/BBC/FOX etc over the last months!

I got told that many thais were angry because it is against thai culture to block people. But I think they were more upset because of the north korean people which got in jail, but didn't want to harm thailand, just wanted to get to south korea.

They told me everyone must be welcome if India or China or whatever..... (but they didn't tell Cambodia, or Birma).

Wonder how thailand will stay competitive in the future. If they dont import talent, have severe restrictions on employing foriegners and make it more difficult for foriegner to set shop here, could be a dangerous move for Thailand and Thai people. Thailand's competitiveness in manufacturing is being threatened increasingly by China, India, Vientam etc.

There is a shortage of Management talent here and Thailand is not know either biotechnology, Information Technology, and R&D. Singapore and Malaysia are increasingly competing for talent in these technologies. Will Thailand be able to overcome this inward looking polcies in an increasingly globalized economy?

Some of the leaders here are highly educated from the leading schools in the world. And I know many professors from these very schools acted as advisers to the previous Thai government. So I fail to understand why all these isolationist policies in Thailand?

:o

Nobody knows what will become of the proposed changes to the visa regulations now.

That is the simple answer. Until there is an official statement about this, we will have to assume that the changes will take place as previously stated.

There WAS a statement from the head of Imm in Phuket AFTER the coup.

He loved us. He went to school in USA, we gave him money and capital markets financing. He has a house in UK (Mayfair I believe), where he will have a super-de-dooper home.
