Which Visa?

Featured Replies

I am a UK citizen aged 51 and my wife is the same age and also a UK citizen. We are wanting to stay in Thailand long term but we seem to be going round in circles with regards to what visa we should get/need and need help with a few questions.

1. Do we each need to show the required amount of money in the bank or can we apply jointly?

2. Would it be better to get the visa in the UK or Thailand?

3. Is collateral in my home, in the UK, taken into account with regards proving sustainability?

4. Which visa would you recommend and why?

Thanks

is your wife Thai

if not then a non immigrant 'O' 'A' visa from Thai embassy London see here - http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/51

1 They changed the rules for couples, you need to apply separately as each individual and show money for each of you.

2 Easier here than in home country.

4 Retirement visa seems suited as you are both over 50

3 they only want to see CASH $$$, not assets.

My wife is English

the only way long term stay is possible for your ages is either non imm 'O''A' as mentioned

or getting a yearly extension of stay within Thailand at a cost of 1,900 baht, but a non imm 'O' visa would be required first, ( these are difficult to obtain for your age in the UK ) a conversion from a tourist visa to a non imm 'O' is possible within Thailand but proof of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account would be required or an income of 65,000 baht per month, i believe it is still possible for one of you to piggy back on the other as a dependant for this yearly extension,

Do some research from the links i provided earlier and come back with any questions

please understand the differences between a non imm 'O' visa and a non imm 'O' 'A' visa.

Plse can somebody that actually knows confirm i.e. Ubonjoe.... Have they really changed the rules for "dependant" here in Thailand.. Appreciate to know as I have NOT heard anything at all about that... Rumour-spreading is not to my liking I guess...

To the OP.....

- VISA is being bought outside Thailand NOT possible inside Thailand...

Me personally, I do strongly recommend to buy a simple 3 month non Imm O in England for you AND your wife, during the last month of validity of that VISA, you go to "your" immigration-office in Thailand, and apply for an "extension of stay" (TM7) for yourself cost 1.900 baht.. That gives you the chance NOT to have to go outside Thailand every damn 3 month for your 90 day reports (TM47) in the future.

Your wife can at the very same visit at immigration, apply as dependent (1.900 baht) to you, not having to show any income....

1. There have been no rule changes. One person can get an extension of stay based upon retirement and the other as that persons dependent.

Even though they are both over 50?

Yes.

And with that I personally have a wish!! I do not like when people answer questions about VISAS, when hey do not have the knowledge. This is not a guessing-contest, so plse do not answer UNLESS you know for sure the answers..

I have read this info on this very forum.

Not my fault if in between they changed it around again.

Now if you want expertise answer and nothing else I suggest a lawyer as opposed to a forum.

There has been no change to the rule for dependent extensions for many years.

Probably a misunderstanding what you thought you read on this forum.

Plse read my post again, I only suggest that you answer when you are definitivt sure what you are informing people, nothing else....

The last thing we need when we ask about things, is a load of people "throwing stuff on the wall and hope it sticks".... We need definitive answers, and above all correct answers....

You are more than welcome to answer, but plse be sure about what you are informing people.. OK?

This is my personal wish, if you dont care than it is up to you....

Again more of the same. Its just always a distraction from the OP. Recently talking about a post at loas border. Just because someone throws something out there doesn't mean much. Unless they really back it up. I think the refusal I'm referring had something to do with the op on that thread.

Many people post about their trouble at border crossing especially and have not given full account. Also that happened at time of bombing in bkk.

Fact is you or anyone else does not know all the facts.

Therfore can't quote it AS FACT

I won't even bother, this is forum, people are trying to help as best as they know.

And I am sorry this is not delivering information up to your very high standards.

Mistake is human

If you don't make any mistake good on you

Best idea so far this week
