Bang San beach now free of plankton blooms

CHONBURI, 7 September 2015 (NNT)- Tourists can now enjoy swimming in the sea in Bang San, Chonburi, again after plankton blooms have disappeared.

Plankton blooms are a common phenomenon that occurs in the ocean around the world. Toxins from the blooms reportedly kill a large number of fish and crustaceans in the sea every year. They also cause the water to smell.

Businesses along the beach of Bangsan have been affected by the natural event as fewer tourists visit the beach than usual. Municipality workers have been deployed to remove dead fish and garbage from the sand.

Effective microorganisms (EM) have also been used to clean the water and get rid of the stench. It is now safe for tourists to return to the beach and swim in the sea.

Energy Ministry to lower LPG prices

BANGKOK, 7 September 2015 (NNT)-The Ministry of Energy will consider lowering LPG prices today due to the decline in global prices.

Energy Minister General Anantaporn Kanjanarat said the Energy and Policy Planning Office will likely decide to lower the prices of LPG today following the global price drop. It is currently sold at 22.96 baht per liter.

As for the 21st round of petroleum bidding, the Energy Minister said the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is now deciding whether stakeholders should be forced to sign a production sharing contract or a concession agreement under the Petroleum Act.

Once approved by the NLA, the Ministry of Energy will allow bidders to survey the oil fields as previously scheduled in October.

General Anantaporn claimed that the bidding process must be carried out according to the schedule as it could also delay the construction of the coal power plant in the South and have adverse effects on electricity supplies in Thailand in the long run.
