MWA to reward water-conserving consumers

BANGKOK, 10 September 2015 (NNT) – The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) is preparing to reward consumers who significantly cut water usage during the dry season as a gesture of gratitude for their cooperation.

The MWA has prepared a budget of 50 million for residents in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi who had successfully reduced their water consumption by more than 10 percent during the recent drought crisis.

In October, a sum of up to 200 baht will be refunded to each household fitting the afore-said criteria. Meanwhile, certificates of honor will be conferred on the best-performing public and private agencies which could conserve at least five cubic meters of water in the past drought.

In addition to the offer of reward, Governor Thanasak Watanathana disclosed that the MWA had expanded its service to more than 12 million people in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi, or about 99 percent of its target.

A budget of 46 million baht has been approved for the improvement of water infrastructure to extend the service to about 10,000 households in marginal areas in the outskirts of Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi which still live without tap water.

A few years ago where I lived water was free if the usage was under a certain amount. I had free water for a year.
