Going back to Savannakhet for the first time in 3 years ...still the same paperwork needed?

Featured Replies

I'm going to get a multi-entry "O" visa based on marriage from Savannakhet next week. Haven't been there for like 3 years but I read that they have a new Consulate now and the process is a bit different. Back then you got the visa the same day but now I believe it's the next day? If I read correctly, you have to submit the application before 11am now and then pick it up at 2pm the next day. Is that correct?

For paperwork, back then all I needed was my passport, 2 passport photos, marriage certificate, wife's ID card and tabien baan (copies of everything). My wife and baby will be coming with me. I assume this time I also need the baby's original birth certificate? Is there anything else I'm missing?

Thanks wai.gif

You need a copy of your wifes I.D card ,plus a copy of her blue book .The marriage cert must be original plus a copy also .You don't need anything for your baby and your wife does not have to be there.

Yes you deliver in the morning and collect next day from 2 pm .The new place is just a 10 minute walk from the main bus station .( i was there just 3 months ago )

As you wrote it is next day service. The times you wrote are correct.

Paperwork is correct. You should not have to show your babies birth certificate.

great, thanks so much! I guess i'll fill out the application now and print it here. less waiting time at the consulate!

for the intended duration on the application form, do you just write "1 year" to get a multiple entry?

Edited by ShannonT

I suggest writing multiple to the right of where you select the visa type since the form does not have a space for number of entries.

Putting one year would also work.

It may work.....but WHY do you need a multiple entry 1 year visa?

I'm not being critical, but if they ask you that question can you give them a valid reason why you need a multi-entry visa?

Other than it is more convenient for you to have an one year visa from outside of Thailand by way of a Thai consulate rather than by applying for a one-year marriage extension at your local immigration office in Thailand?

How would you answer such a question if they asked you it?

They never asked me.......If what I provide on paper is what they want why would they ask any questions.....?

I could answer I had 399,000 bht in a Thai bank for 2 months and that ain't good enough for immigration...

You do not have to give a reason for why you want multi entry. It's 100% the applicants choice. You don't need to apply for a 1 year extension ever if you don't want to. It's not compulsory.

Well.. ubonjoe is the resident expert here and if he suggests it then you should heed his advice.

I think there was a question on the application ,about why i wanted the visa .I just said to be with my Thai wife ,if i remember correctly .Anyway in Savanaket they dont give a <deleted> ,and they dont want to see a Bank statement .Thats why a lot of us end up going to that kip of a dust bowl town .

I agree, but Ubonjoes advice/suggestion has nothing to do with my comment about IMA_FARANG raising unnecessary concerns that the Consulate will question the reason why the OP wants a multi entry visa.

The OP should follow Ubonjoes advice and completely ignore IMA_FARANG'S questions.

i would answer it with the truth. my wife and i just bought a house (cash) AND we had a baby. i don't have the 400k to extend it in the bank right now. i should have it in about 4-5 months though.

The question will not arise but if it did the worst answer you could give is that you don't have 400k in the bank. Although it's not required at Savannakhet to show funds/income triggering their curiosity/questions about how you can finance your stay is not a good idea.

Agreed .The blandest answer will do .If you just said ''because i want to ''.....i am quite sure that they would not question it ,in Savannaket at least .Tell them though that you don't have the B400k ,and its sure to raise a red flag .
