Thai Visa for Spouses

Featured Replies

For a visa as a spouse of a Thai citizen I thought the monthly income requirement was 40,000 baht?

Today I looked at the Thai Embassy in London website and it stated:-

Non-Immigrant Type O

a copy of marriage certificate,a copy of Thai passport/a copy of Thai ID of spouse and (3 months bank statement showing monthly income of more than £1,400 anuually.)

http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/49

This doesn't make sense, can anyone clarify?

PS. £1400 a month comes to 77,000 baht monthly.

It is probably an error.

Best check directly with the Embassy or one of the Honorary Thai Consulates.

I think that you are missunderstanding the stuff here. You compare extension of stay based on marriage which are optainable here inside Thailand, with a buy of a non immigrant O-VISA that are being purchased outside Thailand....

Maybe that is why numbers doesn´t make sense to you....

And this is also one result of mixing up the vocubulary and mixing extensions with VISAS... Good luck..

The embassy in London is a bit quirky and the web page linked to in the OP does indeed ask for evidence of GBP 1,400 monthly income.

Non-Immigrant Type O

  • Birth Certificate (applicant's child)
  • Certificate of Marriage or its equivalents (if married to Thai national)
  • a copy of marriage certificate,a copy of Thai passport/a copy of Thai ID of spouse and (3 months bank statement showing monthly income of more than £1,400 anuually.)
  • An official recommendation letter from organization perform voluntary job in Thailand (for volunteer job)
  • Pension statement if the applicant is a pension earner.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Exactly.

Which is why I suggested direct enquiry be made either at the Embassy or one of the Hon. Thai Consulates

Yes, I think you are right. I have confused the two.

It seems to get the non immigrant O visa a monthly income of 65,000 baht is required which roughly equates to an annual salary of £14,000. (based on 55 baht = £1). I think they dropped a zero from the annual income.

However once in Thailand, to get a visa extension based on marriage I believe the income requirement is then 40,000 baht a month?

Yes thats the official rule. Or 400'000 Baht in a Thai bank account. No combination allowed (either / or).

This UK website is a mess.

For comparison from the fairly well organized website of the Thai embassy/consulate in Berlin, Germany.

No financial requirements for a Non O visa based on spouse.

1200 Euro/month for Non O based on retirement. 1200 EUR ~ 880 GBP.

Strange!

Its in German:

That blatant error on the embassy website has been mentioned many times in other topics. They will issue a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage with no financial proof.

A question on visa requirements for spouse.

I am a UK citizen, living in Thailand, on an extension to a retirement visa.

I am married, in the UK, to a Lao citizen.

To date we have used the 30 day visa runs.

Can we get a longer or better visa based on status as my UK spouse.

All advice welcome

Thank you

Your wife can get a single entry non-o visa at an embassy or consulate and then a apply for an extension of stay as your dependent.

Her first extension would end on the date yours does and then when you apply for your extension she would get a one year extension.
