Extending my stay by two weeks

Featured Replies

I will be returning to Thailand in March next year but want to stay for 6 weeks, so rather than mess about getting a single tourist visa and filling another page in my passport I was thinking about just paying the 1900 bht and getting an extension at my local immigration office I have a clean passport with no overstays in it and I will have a return ticket back home 6 weeks from my entry into Thailand.

Do you think there will be any problems.

You can get a 30 day extension of a 30 day visa exempt entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

The only only problem you might have is boarding your flight to here without a ticket out of the country within 30 days.

As said already you might get a problem from the airline if the return flight isn't within 30 days. You could get around that by buying a cheap flight out of Thailand.

But it would be better to get a tourist visa before you come which will cover your stay. No booked flight needed.

Yes that's what I was thinking, but what is the idea of immigration allowing tourists to extend there stay by 30 days to 60 days if you have to buy a return ticket valid for 30 days, Why don't they issue a free 30 day stamp at the airport or a 60 day for 1900 bht

It is the airlines who are reluctant to fly those without a visa ------------Nothing to do with Thailand.

Does your country of origin sell "stamps" to tourists at the airport ?

Sell stamps not that I know off

Several times, in fact most of my trips to Thailand I never know exactly when I am going to go back to the states, so my EVA ticket is always round trip and several times I make it open ended with no specific return date, and a few times I had a return date of a month or so past the initial 30 days. I knew I was going to stay about two months and was going to make a simple border visa exempt run. I have never been asked about it. never had an issue. I have heard of some airlines as Ubonjoe mentions having an issue with things like that.

In anticipation of those who ask why not just get a tourist visa in advance: I didn't get a tourist visa in advance because it is a bit of a pain. I am not near an embassy or consulate that would at the minimum require a drop off and a pick u visit, I don't like mailing my passport around, and I usually travel on short notice, like a few days.

yes that's the problem I have I do not live near an embassy and I do not like posting my passport also its ridicules the way they fill a whole page up with a visa :)

Hey guys,

Sorry Goonnerone but I can't help you with your situation, but I have dilemma myself and ask for help.

I have currently a Non ED visa with single entrythat allows me to stay in Thailand for 3 months. Im just here fo 3 weeks and was planning to go to Cambodja next month.

Is it true if you cross the border of Thailand that your visa is not valid anymoren, and that you have to arrange a new visa?

A single entry visa is good for ONE use(entry). Once used it is finished!

If you wish to leave the country and return a re-entry permit must be obtained . 1000 Bht from an immigration office.

Be aware that the permit does not provide extra time and when you return you will have the same permission to stay date as is currently stamped in your passport.

Some airlines are reluctant to allow someone to fly into Thailand without a visa. If you're refused entry, the airline may get stuck with flying you out, which they would rather do using your already paid-for ticket.

Don't know about other offices, but Jomtien Immigration Office only issues 7 day extension for ß1900. Not only that, but the extension is technically DENIED, but they give the applicant 7 extra days to exit the Kingdom. This from personal experience with a friend who comes every Jan/Feb and wanted to stay longer than 30 days. This year and last...only 7 days extra even though he requested a 2 week extension.

Not so. Ubonjoe is correct, Jometien office like all other offices issues 30 days extension to visa exempt entries. I got one myself earlier this year.

There are no 2 week extensions of a 30 day visa exempt or any other entry.

Your friend should obtain a tourist visa before the next visit. That will give an initial stay of 60 days and is , as is a visa exempt entry, extendable for 30 days

So the rules were changed in August 2014, which explains why he got the 7 day "Not Approved" extension in February last year. Would you happen to have any idea why he got the 7 day "Not Approved" extension in February of this year? Just had him scan and send the page from his passport and I'm looking at it now. Thanks in advance...wai.gif

For a certain period there have been reports of some officers in Jomtien asking for extra money for the 30 days extension, or giving only 7 days. Fortunately when I went that had ended already.

Where is your friend from. If he is from a country that gets their visa exempt entries due to a bilateral agreement he cannot get the 30 day extension.

Hi Ubonjoe,

I am on a Multi-O one year and I have to leave before 1st Oct 2015. I was invited to a wedding party on Oct 10, 2015 and wonder if I can extend my visa by another 14 days before I return to Germany for a new one year visa.

Unless you are married to a Thai or have a Thai child the longest extension you can get is 7 days to leave the country.

If your visa has not expired you could leave and re-enter the country to get a new 90 day entry.

You can apply for a 60 day extension to visit your child. They will need to be with you when you apply.

You will need their birth certificate plus a copy of it.and a copy of their house book registry.
