Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I am travelling to Thailand from the US on October 5th and have a tourist visa. I am only staying in Thailand for 2 or 3 days and then going to Japan for a week. My question is. Do I have to use my Tourist Visa when I arrive from the US or can simple get a 30 day stamp, then use the tourist visa when I come in from Japan.

If you have a valid Visa in your passport, you have no say in the matter. You have to use the TR.

The only time it changes, is if you have two different classes of Visa in your passport, with both of them being valid.

You can ask the immigration officer but at the present time I expect they will insist on the visa being used.

It is possible to obtain a reentry permit which will allow a return whilst retaining the original "permission to stay" date the visa allows.

Probably yes. You've got two choices

  1. Get a double entry TR before coming.
  2. When you first enter you'll be given enter a 60 day stay with an 'admitted until' date. Before leaving for Japan buy a re-entry permit from the airport (or immigration office) for 1,000 baht, which will mean when you re-enter a week later you'll keep the original 'admitted until' date.
