unmarried with child

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice for a friend of mine, He's from Ireland, has a child with a Thai but they aren't married, his name is on the birth certificate but the child has the mother's name, I've already suggested that the best thing to do is to get married. Is there anyway he could get a years visa without being married, preferably at Savanakhet, I've heard he might be able to get one based on having a child, but I'm not quite sure of the details and documentation.

Would be grateful for any advice

Without being married or having been been legally named as the father your friend has little chance of securing either a visa or an extension of stay.

Being named on the birth certificate doesn't make him the legal father because he is not married to the mother. He needs to arrange becoming the legal father first.
