Hey guys,

Apologies if I am filling the forum up with the same question that's been asked a million times, but I've read through the pinned post on border run alternatives and there is so much advice from different people advising to do different things so I just want to clear things up.

I'm currently in Thailand on a single entry 60 day tourist VISA that I obtained while back in Wales. I have been to Chaeng Wattana to extend the VISA for another 30 days (which runs out on the 8th October.) I am starting work as a teacher in Bangkok and the school has advised that I need to get a new 60 day tourist VISA that will allow me to stay in the country while the school processes the work permit/visa.

I am looking for advice on the cheapest and most straightforward way of doing this. I just spoke to BangkokBuddy who advised that I would need to go to Cambodia and stay for 3 nights, leaving Wednesday and returning Saturday at a cost of 6800 baht (not including hotel or bus home!!). Surely there is a cheaper way of doing it. Do I really have to stay for 3 nights or can it be done overnight?

Other people have said I am better off going to Vientiane instead, is this true? Basically I'm on a limited budget and looking for advice on the cheapest and shortest trip to get a new 60 day VISA.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

It would be best to go to Vientiane Laos for your visa. You could also get a 2 entry tourist visa there. You apply for the visa the morning of one day and get pick up your passport the next afternoon.

You can do it yourself if you wanted to. You can take an overnight bus to Nong Khai and cross over to Vientiane, apply for the visa, stay the night, pick up your visa, re-enter the country and take the bus back,

This company does an all inclusive visa run to Vientiane. http://www.thaivisaservice.com/

Since you are not on a visa exempt entry, one option would be to fly out and back the same day. This would give you 30 days (extendable by another 30 days, if necessary, for 1900 baht).

Lion Air Thai to Singapore on October 6 is less than 4,000 baht return with no visa fees. Cheaper options probably exist if you look around, but prices will be quickly rising as you get closer to the date.

Just like Ubonjoe, I do not recommend that you fly out and in just to get 30 days visa exempt, but you get a tourist visa instead.

That for various reasons:

1. the additional cost of visa is small compare to the cost of flying

2 cost of 60 days visa is about Bt 1,000, cost of extension from 30 to 60 days Bt 1,900.

4. you may need more than 30 or even 60 days to understand the real intentions of t the school about providing supporting paperwork for non-imm B visa and work permit.

Go to Vientiane or Savanaket in Laos and get a double entry tourist visa. Savanaket has been easy but according to resent reports there are much of people (Laotians) at the moment.
I suggest the double entry as it will give you up to 6 months if needed and from my own experience this year it took 4 months to get all documents needed for my Non-B visa. And also if you have the tourist visa you could ask for exchange of visa at immigration without having to leave Thailand when you have all your documents.

Either go with a company like http://www.thaivisaservice.com/ to Vientiane or by yourself to Savanaket. It's basically the same money but if you go by yourself to Vientiane it will become more expensive than to use the company as that is all included!

Hello,

It'd be better for you to get a 60-day tourist visa in Laos. A 30-day visa-exempt stamp wouldn't

be enough if you had to apply for a Thai police clearance. It took me a month to get one at

Royal Thai Police in Bangkok last year.

Good luck.
