Yes, that really sounds like they are BIG stars ... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Why they need to boost tourism ... TAT expect no less than 30 mill. this year and #21 mill. tourist (Aussie) just arrived the other day to receive some monkey-seat return ticket ... Everything is just dandy, no problems here ... gigglem.gifgigglem.gifgigglem.gif

They are big as long as you realize Hollywood isn't the center of the movie Universe (even with Universal Studios)

The Chinese are known to make a movie or two every year. In fact these two are huge stars in China as there is a reasonably big audience.

They may indeed be big stars in Hong Kong, but I have never heard of them. How many Thais would know them.

Now it it was Jackie Chan they had brought in...

I'm sure they brought these HK stars in to boost tourism from the Chinese visitors perspective, not westerners. Chinese like it or not are the biggest market and biggest spenders, its no longer the Westerners. Why would Thais need to know them? They are not targeting the Thai tourism market are they? But for the Thais who do watch some chinese movies, many will recognize Simon Yam.

You seem to miss the point in your anxiety to prove that Hollywood and the U.S.movie system is the biggest and most important in the world.

Yes it is, and your facts are quite correct.thumbsup.gif

.

However the whole point of bringing these famous Chinese movie stars to Bangkok is not to amuse North Americans and Europeans, but to connect with the Chinese and East Asian markets after the "terrorist" attack at Erewan shrine.

Being interested in movie facts, here are some you probably already are aware of.

So what if they are not known in Thailand? Their job is to encourage tourism from PRC and Hong Kong to Thailand.

Simon Yam's been in loads of big Hong Kong movies- Full Contact, Young and Dangerous, IP Man, Election (and it's sequel, both of which are well worth a watch). But sure, you've never heard of him so he can't be famous. Look at all these people take photos of non-famous people. They'll probably need an ignorant westerner to explain to them how wrong they all are :)

And yes, this is being done to promote tourism amongst Chinese. The attack might be reducing the number of Chinese turning up in Thailand. And the use of Chinese film stars to advertise to CHINESE people might be a good idea. We have to bear in mind that some American film stars are almost unknown in China, a bit like how some of the Bollywood stars in India are almost unknown in Europe. :)
