Extending a Non-Imm. type O visa

Featured Replies

I am a UK passport holder with a thai wife and children. I have a trip to Thailand planned that is 153 days in total. If i get a non-imm type O in the UK and then extend this for 60 days at immigration in Thailand can i then get a further extension to cover the 3 remaining days?

Get a muly-O, lasts 15 months..Border run every 90 days.

You can get an extra 7 days. Both the 60 day and 7 day extensions will cost 1,900 baht.

Thanks for the reply. I dont really want any border runs.

Can you get 2 extensions to an O...?

You can in this instance to leave the country,I believe they will likely want to see the outbound ticket within the 7 days.

He could only do a full 1 year extension after the 60 day or get the extra 7 days.

You only get one 60/30 day extension per entry.

No problem to show outbound ticket.

The 7 days isn't an extension. You apply for an extension. It's refused and you get 7 days to leave the country.

I just looked at my passport and the non 'o' issued last time inLondon clearly states "extension of stay not permitted". Will I be able to get another 60 days or not?

I have no idea why that stamp. Nothing that I know from the relevant Thai law and regulations would justify such a limitation.

Perhaps somebody else can explain the possible reason but by law you should be able to obtain either a 60 days or one year extension of stay.

I cannot believe that the put that stupid line on the visa. It will not prevent you from getting an extension. Immigration will just ignore it.

I had not seen that put on a visa for many years and that was when they still did stamps.

So it's a mistake. Intentional or not and can be ignored. Thanks

Just received my passport back from Thai embassy in London. The visa now has "employment prohibited" on it, which I understand rather than the confusing "extension of stay not permitted".

Even that line is wrong if you are married to a Thai or have a Thai child. Retirement it would be correct.

The visa itself does not permit employment.

If the visa was obtained on the basis of marriage attaching a copy of the marriage certificate to a work permit application will overcome any perceived difficulty.

Just to bring this thread up to date. Today I successfully got the 7 day extension that gives me the required extra days I need. When I got my 60 day extension I enquired about the extra 7 days and was told "not possible, just pay at the airport" I was not happy to do that so I thought I would try again today. No questions were asked, did not have to show flight ticket, just pay the 1900 baht fee. It was a different Officer though.

Technically, you were not granted a 7-day extension. Your request for an extension of stay was denied, and you were given 7 days to leave the country. The distinction is fairly academic, of course.

There was no mention of any of that. I asked for 7 days extension and got it.
