Toyota snaps up large land lease on outskirts of Phnom Penh

Featured Replies

Toyota Cambodia will build a new facility on the outskirts of Phnom Penh to serve its customers and operations, the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (PPSEZ) said in a statement yesterday.

The Japanese auto brand distributor has leased 5.3 hectares of land in PPSEZ and will construct a showroom, office, warehouse and training centre. Construction is set to begin in early 2016 and be completed by the middle of the year.

“Cambodia’s economy is growing every year, and we want to take the opportunity to invest in the country now,” said Kong Nuon, chairman of Toyota Cambodia.

Oh dear does not bode well for the SEZ's across the border, at least where Japanese investment is concerned.

Bye bye Toyota.

Bye bye Toyota.

Mess the largest car manufacturer in the world about (now that VW is <deleted>) with a trumped up and retroactive tax charge (classic rent-seeking)and there are consequences.

The writing was on the wall for Toyota to start investment in other geographies when the Thai Government stuck their hand out for more " Tax " money a few months ago.

This is what happens when you get monkeys in brown uniforms trying to run a country. So much damage is being done.
