Work permit & employer restrictions ?

Featured Replies

I can get a work permit from a family friend as they run their own business , if I wanted to apply for another job this means the new employer has to apply for new work permit or can they take my current one over ?

Normally the WP is cancelled and a new one issued.

It is however possible to have two employers in a WP for the same area, but it's super complicated.

Requires double paper work and permissions from both employers.

You cannot subsequently take out the first employer alone, you still have to cancel.

Best thing is to forget this idea, unless you genuinely have two employers simulatneously.

Agree.

'... complicated...' is true and it includes both employers providing letters of guarantee that essentially nobody would be prepared to sign.

Tried it before, once both employers saw the required guarantee template they withdrew from the process immediately and I didn't blame them.

In Thailand, the work permit you get is tied to the employer. So it is normal that if you change employers, you would apply for a new work permit.

If you work for more than one employer, it is possible to add the second employer to the work permit. But the requirements (e.g. minimum salary) apply per employer.

In other countries, the work permit is tied to the employee, so he can work anywhere. That is not the case in Thailand.

Which countries are you talking about...?

I have had work permits and work visas for mutiple countries over the years and they were all tied to the employer as you are not a PR or citizen of said country

6) You will not post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to suffer harm. It does not have to be false to be defamatory. Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in Thailand.
