Rohinya migrants escape from detention centre in South

KHAO LAK: -- Fourteen Rohinya migrants escaped from their detention centre in Phang Nga province last night but nine were brought back and five are still on the run.

Khao Lak station police were alerted of the escape by officials at the children and family home in Tambon Kuk Kak of Takua Pa district that 14 Rohingya migrants, mostly children and mothers aged between 5-32, quietly removed a iron bar window on the second floor of their detention room and used blankets to tie together as rope to climb down and escape.

A van was also seen to wait outside the wall fence and drove away with some migrants, while another group was spotted in roadside bushes some 800 metres away.

The centre authorities and police later searched the bushes and managed to bring back nine escapees, all women and their children.

Police said this group of migrants were hiding in the bushes, awaiting a van to come and pick them up later.

Five others, all female migrants, are still at large.

Politic were checking CCTV cameras along the routes to take them back to the centre.

Officials capture escaped Rohingya women, children
Phuket Gazette

PHANG NGA: -- Officers were able to recover all 14 Rohingya women and children who escaped by a rope made of clothes from the second floor of the Phang Nga Shelter for Children and Families this morning.

The escaped refugees ranged from a 5-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl to women up to 32 years old.

“We received a reporter right after midnight that they had escaped,” Capt Siranat Saripat of the Khao Lak Police said. “We were told by witnesses that there was a van with no registration plates parked next to the shelter. Some refugees ran into the van, while others headed into the jungle.”

The two children and seven others hiding in the jungle nearby were quickly found by officers.

“Just this morning, we received a report that the five other women were spotted in a palm plantation nearby. We were able to collect them and return them to the shelter as well,” Cap Siranat said.

If the reporter wants to report something really newsworthy, he might want to give an account of what conditions are like in this detention center.

I'd venture to say if they were treated in a humane fashion then there'd be no need for escape.

Rohingya escapees rounded up
The Nation

PHANG NGA: -- Some 14 Rohingya escaped detention at a Phang Nga family home in Takua Pa yesterday morning by climbing down a makeshift "rope" of blankets from the building's second floor, where they slept.

The escapees were identified as 12 women aged from 13-32, plus a five-year-old boy, and a seven-year-old girl.

After the escape was reported at 3am, police inspected the scene and were told some escapees fled in a bronze-coloured van that was waiting on Phetchkasem Highway (Takua Pa to Khao Lak) while others ran towards the woods.

Police later apprehended nine women hiding in the woods reportedly waiting to be picked up by a labour agent.

The remaining five escapees were recaptured later.

Police are examining security camera footage along the route to identify the van that picked them up. The escapees reportedly said that the agent had promised to take them to another country.

That would be considered a classic escape if ever there was.....with iron bars removed and blankets tied together and hanging off the side of a building undetected and running for freedom....just like in the movies....."The Great Escape"

Desperate measures by desperate people.....

Sad really.

But what to do........what to do??

Cheers

"....just like in the movies....."The Great Escape"

These women and children whose sin is to have done nothing more than be a Rohingya, desperately seeking sanctuary away from Myanmar, are now rounded up like common criminals.

As for the Great Escape, I doubt these poor women would have been willing to tunnel hundreds of feet under any fences . I don't recall anyone using bed sheets to escape from Stalag Luft lll.

But I get your drift.wink.png

Great detention center who gives the migrants the chance to call for a taxi or friend to pick them up when they are ready to escape. How much are the guards at these centers paid. Hard to find good help in Thailand!

No one in Thailand invited them to there country or told them the would get first class service. This service was better then they were getting in the home country!
