PM: Article 44 will not be used to seize assets of those involved in rice pledging scheme

BANGKOK, 7 October 2015 (NNT)- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has affirmed that Article 44 will not be used to seize the assets of those involved in the rice pledging scheme case.

According to him, the case is now in the judicial process and that mechanisms to reclaim losses are currently in place. The premier said that the process would abide by the law in order to create justice.

He added that he personally had no intentions of prolonging his power, but that he was working to improve the country.

In regard to the haze situation in the South, Prime Minister General Prayut said related agencies have already been ordered to improve the situation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also meet with Indonesian authorities on the issue.

Too late anyway, the monies will have been moved a

long ago.

regards Worgeordie

True, the money is gone from the various scams

eg

smuggling in cheap rice from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and selling it as Thai rice

Rice millers paying for non existing rice

Warehouse owners re-selling rice to another warehouse as new rice

Rice millers paying farmers a lower price for moisture contact and charging the government a higher price

Warehouses charging for storage of non-existing rice

Warehouses allowing the rice to rot due to poor storage

But this is about getting back the money from an off budget scam ( not a subsidy ) that was promised to be non-lose making and just needed a cash input and then become a revolving fund and once all the rice was sold it would be paid back.

So the court doesn't need to find the money, or even prove personal corruption, just prove that due to incompetence eg not attending any meetings, poor administration to allow multiple types of corruption. Just prove that the Rice scam wasn't revenue neutral, and ending up costing the Thai people a huge amount of money ( and we now find most rice farmers are further in debt or committed suicide because of debt )

Well if the estimates on losses of 500 billion are correct, then if you take Pheu Thai's time in power as being 3 years... The total cost is around 320k baht every minute (just the losses). And this was supposed to be a self financing scheme.

Article 44 should be used exactly for the purpose of freezing assets of those suspected to be involved, some serious auditing should be done. After all this money went somewhere and was invested into things which can be siezed.

So why not put those suspected under the spotlight, have them be audited, and if they're clean, never bothered about it again.

But who is as squeaky clean as to be an auditor here, I know not many at all

Do whatever is needed to punish those involved, sieze assest from them and all extended family who cannot show where unusual wealth came from.

The one advantage to military rule (with a honest military) is they can streamline the results (including bypassing a suspect judical system to correct the many wrongs done by those who need a real loss of money, face, and recongization as they have never had any positive input into this countries society in any way that they have been acknowledged for.

"In regard to the haze situation in the South, Prime Minister General Prayut said related agencies have already been ordered to improve the situation."

And just what are they to do? Build a wall? May I suggest that henceforth all police and TAT press conferences be held in the South. All the hot air ought to blow away the smoke.

and same should happen to the general soldier PM once he is gone from his acquired post he should have to pay out of his own pocket for the silly submarine deal with china a full refund to Thai tax payers + interest of course. and that might help stop so many military take overs in Thailand and military corruption

Channel News Asia reported LoS had offered assistance to Indonesia and went on to explain how the tourist area of Phuket was being affected.

I don't think the channel meant to suggest it was the reason help was offered but many of us will have our own thoughts on that.
