Clean Master 1000MB Junk in few days?

Featured Replies

I got an app on my HTC ONE which cleans so much Junk about every other day, it sounds too good to be true.

Nothing that effects operation I simply wonder what happens to a mobile without such Junk cleaner, logic says= it must freeze. I´m not an active surfer, visiting say 10 sites a day, always the same for financial info like seekingalpha.com. Look at the screen shot 490MB over 2 days. Often 1000 MB

As I said the app works ok, no complaints but these numbers don´t seem to make sense ..to me.

Must satisfy my curiosity.

Clean Master is counting accumulative removals (they erase the same temp files, recreated by the installed apps, over and over again)

Clean Master was great a few years ago but recent added 'features' were problematic so I switched to ES Task Manager (since I also use ES File Manager).

Speaking of CLEANMASTER, I have a Lenovo A936 with Cleanmaster pre-installed. Whenever I try to use it, I get a pop-up "This is a customized version for international users, please uninstall the Chinese version before using" When I try to uninstall, I get "Uninstall Failed" every time.

Any suggestions?

What an odd message. Makes one think you have two versions of the app installed. But if it came as a 'system app' then it can't be deleted, and will only give you the option of uninstalling updates. Some CleanMaster update may have created a Chinese Puzzle Box condition. Neat.

You may find the only way to clear the error is to perform a 'factory reset' (that deletes all working data and re-initializes the phone to new fresh-out-of-box, first boot, condition. If the device was/is 'rooted' (has root admin access) then you may be able to install utility apps to check and clear up the issue without needing to perform a 'factory reset'.

Won't this software just waste erase cycles on the storage media?

I liked this answer on StackOverFlow.com:

SD card write limit - data logging

Sounds like it depends on how full you keep your memory/sd card.

Edit: adding a link to a Kingston technical reference (.pdf)

cameras, mobile phones and other devices

i think these programs over exaggerate to make them look like they doing a good service, next time look at system storage before and after to see if it gives you an extra GB of free space.

I think you are correct that two versions are overlapping..."Chinese puzzle box" is an apt description. I think this will be the last phone I buy from a Chinese online retailer. The phone originally had a Chinese ROM and the retailer overlaid the English ROM but it left a lot of Chinese fragments. Just not worth the hassle.

The phone has a "Superuser" app icon (blue with a hashtag) I believe that has something to do with admin access but I've no idea how to use it.

If you have a superuser app icon there is a high chance the phone is rooted and have full access...

if that is the case download titanium backup free version, load it up, ( should ask for root permissions, that is how you will know for sure its rooted then when the intial ok, yes blah, blah, blah click the second tab backup/restore scroll down to cleanmaster, tap once then click Uninstall a warning should pop up telling you it is a system app, then a second message then the app will be deleted.

You can also delete any other app yu dont want juts becareful not to delete anything that yu may need to run android.

Thanks for this...very useful to know. Have you ever seen a list of what apps are essential and should never be deleted.

I have so many apps marked Android this or that or Google this or that...I never dare delete them for fear of bricking the device.

Any App that you can normally delete in the System/Apps setting can of course be deleted. Any published App that was included as part of the firmware of your phone can be deleted (usually referred to as Bloatware). These apps are stored in the protected 'system' partition and require a 'rooted' device (a device having 'root' user access and 'root' utilities) to make system changes.

Some people recommend downloading NoBloat Free and letting it guide you. link to TechRepublic article

That leaves proprietary Apps, and unique com.* 'package' entries. Some of these can be DISABLED or FROZEN (using a utility app) rather than deleted, in case there are issues where one app is linked or relies on another (like Camera and Photo Gallery).

What "com. packages" Android Apps(Bloatware) are Safe to Remove?

Thanks Rich Cor and 2008Bangkok...Helping me to understand root access and the Titanium Backup suggestion enabled me to successfully uninstall the 2 conflicting CleanMaster apps and re-install the latest version which is now working fine.

At some point I try RC's ES Task Manager suggestion.

The reviews on ES Task manager are not good. Any ideas on the current users?
