First childcare scheme in Thailand proves a success

BANGKOK, 15 October 2015 - The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has said the first childcare scheme has received positive responses from families with newborns.

Permanent Secretary of Social Development and Human Security Maitree Intusut said the scheme is the first of its kind in the history of Thailand. The childcare program was developed to provide protection to babies before and after they were born.

As many as 1,600 eligible pregnant women registered when the scheme was launched on September 15. Only those who earn less than 3,000 baht a month are qualified to join the scheme.

Ministry officials will also assess how well the program caters to the newborn. More pregnant women from low-income families will be persuaded to join the program to assure the well-being of their babies. Officials are expected to visit families to provide advice on how to care for their infant.

""proven successful" as the headline leading to this article may be a little optomistic in regard to results??? but then who am I to question Thai newsprint.

Don't be so negative, they gave free money to poor families with newborns and "received positive responses".

Against all odds its a hugely successful scheme. Who would have thought that those poor families would appreciate free money? Not me, I would have thought they would complain and be unhappy with it.

they know it was successful, you cynical TVF posters, because they polled the babies!!!

anyway why don't they concentrate on reducing unwanted births AND making the fathers responsible etc.

Just another reason for poor people to make more babies? They do it in India to use the kids as beggars at the airports. Will they do it here to collect the grant?

In any society there will be a certain element to take advantage of schemes such as this. I think this scheme is commendable. Some of the poor villages in rural Thailand have no electricity and the families need assistance.
