PHUKET: -- The Royal Thai Navy says it is ready to respond if the Thalang Police Station in Phuket province is attacked again.

The police station was rocked by a riot over the weekend.

Police are now taking steps to bring those responsible to justice, but it is rumoured that locals will take to the streets again if arrest warrants in connection with the riot are issued.

"I don't think the situation will get out of control. All those facing arrest warrants are wrongdoers, and some of them are also involved in drugs and wayward behaviour," Phuket's police chief Pol Maj-General Patchara Boonyasit said yesterday.

Hundreds of locals went on a rampage on Saturday night over the death of two young drug suspects, who sustained fatal injuries when their motorbike crashed during a police chase. The riot lasted until the small hours of Sunday and left the police station and many vehicles parked in its compound damaged.

Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada said yesterday that he would work on ensuring justice to all sides, adding that the authorities would stick to the legal framework and treat everyone equally.

Phuket Tourism Council's president Phurit Maswongsa said some Japanese tourists had cancelled their trip to Phuket in the wake of the rights.

"Some Singaporean tourists have also decided to postpone their trips," he said.

So far, Phurit said the riot did not have as big an impact on the tourism sector as the recent haze problem.

Recently the PM denied there was any conflict within the army and although this report isn't about conflict it does suggest that one branch of the armed forces may be hinting if the BIB and army can't handle the situation they're ready to step in.

Inter-service rivalry exists everywhere but if the headline is accurate this is not good and maybe seen as a provocation or challenge by other agencies.

Whoever from the navy may have said this needs to be taken aside and not too quietly told to shut it.

Another reason Police don't do thier job properly. Local people riot becasue of the death of drug dealers being persued for probably crimes.

Wonder what the demographic of the rioters look like? Drug dealers, looky looky men, con-artists, punch happy bouncers? Throw the book at them all.

The Royal Thai Navy says it is ready to respond if the Thalang Police Station in Phuket province is attacked again.

Royal Thai Navy: We now have the exact coordinates of Thalang Police Station and we can torpedo it any time we want!

Astute Observer: Ahem, the station is on dry land, how can you torpedo it?

Royal Thai Navy: Stop tarnishing our image! Torpedo the astute observer!

The Royal thai Navy upholding the peace and the rule of law. Good. Would this be the same Royal Thai Navy that got involved in people smuggling and tried to prosecute Phuketwan reporters for daring to mention it? The same one that uses deadly force to deal with illegal fishermen from Vietnam?

They got early delivery of the 3 subs so look out. Dam the torpedo's full speed ahead. I think the type they are getting has fold up wheels so they can be operated on land. Up periscope.
