MAE HONG SON: -- A Malaysian national and his Thai partner have been arrested for allegedly skimming ATM cards and stealing a substantial amount of cash from card holders.

The duo, Mr Somchai Wattanasaensuk and Mr Oeng Kok-hoi, were arrested by police in Mae Hong Son and presented to the media on Tuesday at the 4th Region Provincial Police Bureau.

Police said that they are still hunting for two other gang members, Mrs Putthamat Yajai and Mrs Chaba Srichart. The gang travelled in a car to various gas stations at night and placed skimmer devices in the ATM machines to steal information from card holders. Then they made fake ATM cards to steal money from the owners.

Pol Maj-Gen Pirapong Wongsamarn, commander of the investigative command of the 4th region provincial police bureau, said the gang also sold the stolen ATM information to the other gangs in order to avoid police detection.

He added that police have frozen the bank accounts of the two suspects.
