Can anyone name any attempt by Thailand to be the hub of anything ever succeed?

beatdeadhorse.gif And of course hub of rediculous selling hours of alcohol beverages so people buy way more than they need, stockpiling it to avoid the inconvenience of the hours when it can not be purchased. I have never had so much booze in my house in my life since moving here to Thaiand. I don't even drink that much, but would be embarrased if a visitor showed up and I could not offer them a beer because the nearby 7-11 can't sell any!

More money to be paid under the table for the system integrator that will install the system without an official tenders.

And yes A Col becomes a CEO of CAT is as strange as the Dubai Col that made his fortunes under their Telco brands. The problems with CAT is that they force their products on the real telco companies such as AIS, DTAC, TrueMove-H as they hold the licenses and nothing really changed.

You read this obsession with controlling internet content, with the obsession to control alcohol and you come to the conclusion that the company is going in the wrong direction and obsessing about the wrong things. Corruption is holding Thailand back, and I don;t really see anything being done about it. We still have traffic stops for tea money and no policing of traffic laws.

CAT tries to create a monopoly so that they can keep prices high and choice low?

Welcome to the real world. Beer companies are now in the process of doing the same. The two beer giants hooking up will control 70% of the beer market. Prices up service and choice down. Same the world over.

All this article says is: CAT is building an international gateway.

So what? They're already operating one (or a few). They need to build more international bandwidth. That, people, is a good thing. I am not seeing anything about establishing a monopoly, or preventing others from investing in their own international gateways.

Indeed, all they are saying is that they intend expanding their existing IIG as the current capacity will be exceeded within 5 years at current growth rates. The article in the other national English daily is far clearer.

So the new head of CAT was until his appointment head of the NSC... So CAT is implementing a single gateway that all providers must collaborate on to avoid duplicate investments...

What's missing is an explanation as to how implanting a single gateway to censor information will make Thailand a digital hub for ASEAN. These announcements are so counterintuitive that I question if the new head of CAT or the spy agency here really understand how a single gateway will retard the economy.

LOL Since when did the "head" of any agency here in Land of Scams UNDERSTAND anything over which they have control? The incompetence is staggering.

i have three connections, TOT ADSL 12mbit, 3BB ADSL 15mbit and CAT fiberoptic 35mbit (all nominal). that's why i know what is fake and what is actual.

e.g. a site in Europe takes ~4-6 seconds to open with TOT and 3BB. with CAT it takes 1 second.

You should read what the PM has to say about this in today's news.

The intent is clearly not about increasing bandwidth. It's about controlling access and content.
