webfact Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Migrant journey to Slovenia continues despite entry limitsSLOVENIA: -- Thousands of migrants continued their miserable journey into the smallest country on the Balkan route: Slovenia. The country’s parliament is expected to approve changes to its laws later today (October 20) to enable the army to help police guard the border. On Monday Slovenia said it could only accept as many migrants through its southern border with Croatia as are able to exit its northern border into Austria.“The arrival of migrants over the past three days exceeded the manageable number of people that Slovenia was prepared for,” explained Miro Cerar, Prime Minister of Slovenia earlier today. “Only yesterday, more than 8,000 people arrived in Slovenia, while only 2,000 people exited to Austria, despite the claims of Austrian authorities that their politics about accepting the refugees has not changed.”A Slovenian government statement pointed out that Slovenia borders larger member states such as Croatia, Hungary, Austria and Italy, and said “it is an illusion to expect that a country of two million people will stop and solve what larger members were unable to.”On Monday the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said that more than 10,000 migrants were stranded in Serbia, which borders Croatia. Many more were on their way there. -- (c) Copyright Euronews 2015-10-21
