KUALA LUMPUR: -- Malaysia and Australia have agreed to exchange expertise in countering terrorism threats, according to New Straits Times.

This will see Malaysia benefiting from Australia’s advanced border control experience, while the latter is seeking to adopt Malaysia’s successful programmes in rehabilitation and deradicalisation of violent extremists.

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Australia has offered to share its knowledge and skills in border security, including experience in utilising the Advanced Passenger Screening System and biometric and E-Gate systems, and how an optimum screening of visitors can be conducted at land and sea entry points.

He said Australia has also offered to provide training for not only the Immigration Department officers, but also police and other enforcement agencies.

“In exchange, the Australian authorities want to learn and adopt our approach towards rehabilitating extremists. They are also facing the same problem (extremism) as there are immigrants from the Middle East who reside in their country and had been given permanent resident status, but create trouble for the authorities there,” he said.

Now , if only Thailand could bury their phobias and bring in international expertise, how things would change for the better. Problem being, they have nothing to offer in return and they want to protect the world from learning what is making them so inadequate, protective and secretive of their sordid ittle empire. It's all about the dirty money, bucket loads of it.
