US citizen living full time in Mexico

Featured Replies

I am a full time, 12 year resident, US citizen, living in Mexico. I figure I will need to visit the Mexico DF Thai embassy for a visa to visit Thailand. The question is, considering the airfare costs, is that I would like a 60 to 90 day visa. Is that even possible?

I understand, somewhat ,the border run game since I did that for years but I'm not really wishing to have to play that game again. I would rather get a 90 day visa and be able to just learn and enjoy my time as opposed to visa runs. Thanks

Apply for a tourist visa which will allow a 60 day entry.

Toward the end of the sixty days apply, at any immigration office , for a 30 day extension of stay (1900 Bht fee)

If 60 days total is enough, you could just fly in and get the 30 day visa exempt stamp when you arrive at the airport. Then later you can pay 1900 baht at the local immigration office and get another 30 days. Then after that time is up just fly home.

  • As advised by 'oncearugge' a 60 day tourist visa is available and it's your best option even if only staying for 60 days.

Although you qualify for a 30 day visa exempt entry, if you don't have a visa, the airline may not let you fly if you don't have an onward flight out of Thailand dated within 30 days of arrival.

Sort of what I was thinking. If I book a 60 day return ticket and want to, and am allowed, stay another 30 days then the airline will charge me to change dates. meaning more money. I guess a 60 day visit would be the smart idea, especially for my first time in that part of the world.

If you want to travel without a visa the airline don't need a return ticket just a ticket flying out of Thailand anywhere within 30 days.

If you get a tourist visa you don't need to book your return flight before you travel if you don't want to unless the embassy or consulate that you apply at insist.
