I decided to start cutting my own lawn about 6 months ago and bought a EM 1600 Asgatec lawn mower. It gets used about every two weeks so figure it's been used maybe 12 or 15 times since I bought it. Yesterday I got about 15 minutes into the mowing and it just died on me, not exactly an endorsement of the brand, but maybe I just got a bad one. It's off to repair under warranty, but I wonder if anyone has had a good run with one of these?

I would have been happy to get 18 months. You know I'm talking about a mower, couldn't cut my lawn with a brush cutter, it would look like a bad haircut.

Buy a Honda (make sure it is actually Honda, not just Honda Motor on local chassis ) It will last forever. Cut 1/2 rai of grass every week for 18 Months with mine. Sits outside in between cuts and starts everytime. They run about 20k baht.. The cheaper local chassis version start around 12k.. There is a shop on Pattaya Klang on left ( if enter from Sukky ) just before Santi Hardware.. They have the cheapo ones but can order the real deal.

I have an area of lawn about 10 metres X 5 metres, doesn't justify spending 20K on a mower.

Buying a succession of cheap mowers that break down is more expensive in the long run.. Alternatively get a wife and buy her a set of shears.

This is the first, hardly a succession. Neighbours both have electric mowers that have lasted trouble-free for years. Maybe I picked the wrong brand.

actually once you set the straps for the cut she finds it easy, the strimmer you buy seperate and take off the cutting blade and it fits the machine.

we have a 40mts x 20mts.less the house so quite a bit, neighbours are quite amazed when they see the wife of a farang cutting the grass and so level.

but as she say's it saves me a 1000bht.giggle.gif

See how the mower goes after it's returned for repair. If it dies after warranty runs out I'll look for a better brand like Bosch.

I need a brush cutter for the garden. This is only for grass on the boarders, around trees and plants mainly. I don't want to spend to buy a honda as it really doesn't warrant it. I have been looking at the Asgatec because of the price.

Has anyone got anything good to say about these?

after throwing our ashgate mower on the tip,we bought a euroe bush cutter model rob-411AB from home pro.it comes with a steel blade, and we bought a strimmer which fits after you remove the blade.petrol plus oil.not expensive by any means. around 3,000bht.

Can you come and visit me as my wife seems to need an attitude adjustment.

While I have no problems with the brush cutter/strimmer she seems unable to clear up the cut grass, probably due to having a bone in her leg and a non fatal addiction to playing games on our son's tablet while he is at school.

My brush cutter is a Honda UMK 435 that cost around 8,000 baht new but we have about 2 rai of grass and scrub to keep down. A mower is not really an option as the ground is not level and full of socks/stones etc which tend to chew up a 16 inch steel blade and turn it into a 12 inch one in a couple of months after grinding all the nicks and dents out.

Does your Honda mower have a steel or plastic frame where the blades spin and cut? My Honda UMK 435 has a plastic stone guard that generally lasts around 1 month before finally breaking up.

Went to pick up the mower from ThaiWatsadu yesterday after over a month to repair, but it was minus one wheel. The girl said, are you sure you didn't bring it in like this? Obviously I didn't, so they found another wheel and away I went. Took it home and started it up, and what a difference, like it was turbo-charged! Hopefully I'll get some trouble-free mowing out of it now.

I think if anybody hands in something like that for repair it may be a good idea to take a few photos and get the shop to sign for the condition they received it in
