Extending VOA

Featured Replies

With so many changes with thai visas, I'm now confused as what is what.

I'm travelling to Thailand in December for a stay of 60 days, I was planning on getting a VOA of 30 days, and then extend it by another 30 days, but it seems that now I cannot do that?

Also I read that I can leave and comeback as many times as I like within 180 days providing I stay no longer than 90 days?

Can somebody please shed some light on these matters.

1st part of your question, yes you can still do this, just go to any Immigration for a 30 days extension, 1900 Baht and a photo

2nd Part seems to be related to the new METV?

From your profile, I deduce that you will be traveling on a UK passport, correct? If so, you cannot get a visa on arrival. UK citizens can typically receive a visa exempt entry, allowing a 30-day stay without the need for a visa (which can be extended for a further 30 days at an immigration office). If wishing to enter visa exempt, note that your airline will likely want to see a ticket leaving Thailand within 30 days of entry. This is usually not a huge problem if your return flight can be rescheduled without penalty, but can be annoying otherwise. It might be better to get a single entry tourist visa (60 days on entry) in advance instead.

That rule for visa exempt entries was recinded 7 years ago.

Presumably you're talking about a visa exempt entry, not a visa on arrival.

I'll just get single entry I think, and get the 60 days.

Thanks guys

Good choice. You won't have to mess around getting the 30 day extension at immigration or the airline refusing you boarding and it is actually cheaper, 1000 baht vs 1900 baht. And if you do want to stay more than 60 days you can extend it for another 30 days at immigration.
